weldedtomyspine: (mildly amused)

Third floor common room [Wednesday afternoon]

Once he'd encountered a few people and figured out what was going on, Jaime had almost locked himself in his room. Not because he wasn't used to weird stuff, but because he wasn't used to being more off-balance than the Scarab. Usually he was calm and collected and the Scarab flipped out an told him to blow things up.

Not that the Scarab wasn't flipping out and telling him to blow things up, it was just that the Scarab was apparently unimpressed by the fact that a lot of girls were now boys. Which was not supposed to happen. So Jaime found himself in a weird position where he was confused and unstable while the Scarab just kept on business-as-usual.

And there was only one thing Jaime knew of that would help stabilize him at a time like this... Home cooking. And while he didn't have his mom around to do it, he did have a phone and could follow a recipe.

Which explained the rich smell of beef and peppers and mole sauce wafting through the common room. Jaime felt himself relaxing already.

Oh, there she went, making Jono reflect on his day.

If he attempted to smile any harder, he'd probably hurt himself.

//I made a run to the music shop in town,// he shared. Happy Jonothon was happy. //And I left with a job.//

It was definitely not very manly for Didi to do what she did, which was to squeak and dive at Jono to attempt a hug.

"That is so perfect for you."

Jono's eyes widened a little at the dive-of-a-hug, and he found himself stumbling backward some before he could check himself. It wasn't anything personal, really. It was one of those rare instances where he really could say, 'It's not you, it's me,' if need be.

He did stop himself after a few steps, before he could end up taking a topple. And then he was going to kind of just stand there and feel like a bit of a barmpot for that particularly graceful manoeuvre.

//It is,// he agreed, trying not to look about fifteen shades of awkward as he said it.

"... ask before I do that, huh?" Didi said, suddenly interested in her (his?) shoes and going pink. She swallowed. "Um. So. Right. New job. Yay! When do you start?"

Jono managed a nod in response to the first question, a bit of a blush gracing his own cheeks as he decided that his own boots were quite interesting. All... pointy-toed and such. Ah, fashion.

//Next Tuesday,// he replied. //And I believe I've got permission to hold workshop sessions, to show the non-locals around the different genres of music around here.// He looked up, kicking his awkwardness in the face. //It's a bloody crime how many people have been here for a few semesters now, and they still don't know what 'rock and roll' means.//

Didi's flip-flops (hey, you try finding shoes for feet the wrong gender) were equally fascinating. She had hair on her toes now.

She glanced up when his voice echoed in her mind, though. "They're deprived," she said. "You can teach them. Like you're going to teach me Friday, right?"

... which may have been her way of checking that they were still hanging out.
furnaceface: (Told you so)

//Just like I'm going to teach yer on Friday,// he agreed, trying a reassuring expression on for size. //One-on-one, though. Everybody else gets the classroom treatment, if I manage to pull that much off.//

Which was his way of saying, yep, still hanging out, and that maybe he thought she was shinier than the other folks.
