"Today we will offer you the opportunity of sparring against each other," Leto said when everyone had gathered. "Zack and I will be here to assist you, or spar if you like. The combination of improving your skills and learning the strengths and weaknesses of your friends makes this extremely useful." He smiled. "And fun."

"So," Zack said, practically chirping yet again as he stepped forward to speak, "what we need you guys to do is to pair off, find a spot here on the lawn where you won't get in anyone else's way, and spar. Please, be careful to take it slowly at first. Understand that there are people who have far, far more experience than others in this field. It can't hurt to compare notes first, to try to judge if you're going to be wildly unbalanced or not."

"Exactly," Leto replied. "This is practise and we shouldn't have to take anyone to the clinic. If you have questions or concerns, talk to us."

"Same as if anyone does end up hurt." Zack nodded. "I have potions and healing Materia on hand just in case. Okay guys, have at it!"

"To send to every Luke we know," Ben said, laughing.

"And my Jaina," Tahiri added, grinning, "since Force knows she could use a reminder about how to laugh. It'd really be for the good of a lot of people."

"Think I could negotiate with the gremlins and bring that up?" he asked.

"Remember what happened last time people tried to negotiate with gremlins?" Tahiri replied. "You could try, but then I might end up with more holo footage of you. For the record, you were adorable."

Adorable. Just what every teenaged boy wants to be told he is, right?

Ben blushed to his hairline. "Adorable?" he repeated. "Really?"

"I think you're always adorable?" Tahiri tried.

"I'm not sure that's really helping," Ben said with a self-conscious smile.

"Well, you are. Deal with it," Tahiri replied. "Though I like it better when I can actually talk to you."

"It's not my fault you don't speak fluent Meep," Ben said. "I bet Threepio could've translated."

Tahiri snorted lightly. "Do you speak fluent Meep? I actually would've almost paid good credits to see Threepio deal with that."

"I don't any more," Ben said loftily.

"Well, that's a shame. I'm sure it would've come in handy at some point," she teased.

"Force forbid," Ben said. "Has anyone ever been bit and thought they were the same thing twice?"

"That would be too easy, wouldn't it?" Tahiri asked. "And now I'm starting to worry that I'm overdue to get bitten again."

Ben glanced around. You know, just in case. "I'll be sure to take holo of it," he assured her.

"Maybe I can get bitten before the weekend, and you can show your dad, and he'll go a little easier on me after he sees it?" Tahiri asked, biting her lip.

Yes, she was worried. Could you tell?

"You're really worried about this, huh?" he asked softly.

Tahiri ducked her head. "More than I probably should be. I'm not her, but . . . you've had more time to get used to that than he has."

And she could tell he still had trouble with it.

"My relationship with you is a bit different than his is," Ben said with a tiny smile. "And you haven't done anything wrong."

Something he would repeat to himself over and over again this weekend, no doubt.

Something Tahiri repeated to herself a bit more often than was probably healthy.

"No," she murmured, not letting go of his hand. "I used to think it was awful when he'd give me that disappointed look, after Anakin and I got caught doing something we shouldn't have. I guess I'm worried that I'll see it again, and it'll be a million times worse."

"Oh, I hate that look," Ben said, shaking his head and squeezing her hand. "I don't think he'll use it, though."

"I hope not." Tahiri blew out a breath, forcefully enough to muss her bangs. "Okay. Nothing to worry about, right? It's just a weekend, and it'll be fine, and then we celebrate with ice cream." This could end up being a mantra.

Oh, wait, it already was, sort of.

"And I love you," Ben added quietly.

"Even if he gets upset," Tahiri replied, sending a wave of affection toward him. It wasn't a question; she didn't doubt it.

"Even then," Ben said, totally breaking their bet to kiss her cheek.
