Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"Today we will offer you the opportunity of sparring against each other," Leto said when everyone had gathered. "Zack and I will be here to assist you, or spar if you like. The combination of improving your skills and learning the strengths and weaknesses of your friends makes this extremely useful." He smiled. "And fun."

"So," Zack said, practically chirping yet again as he stepped forward to speak, "what we need you guys to do is to pair off, find a spot here on the lawn where you won't get in anyone else's way, and spar. Please, be careful to take it slowly at first. Understand that there are people who have far, far more experience than others in this field. It can't hurt to compare notes first, to try to judge if you're going to be wildly unbalanced or not."

"Exactly," Leto replied. "This is practise and we shouldn't have to take anyone to the clinic. If you have questions or concerns, talk to us."

"Same as if anyone does end up hurt." Zack nodded. "I have potions and healing Materia on hand just in case. Okay guys, have at it!"

Zack's provided cookies and juice today! Gotta keep up those energy levels when you're beating one another up, right?

You can talk amongst yourselves to find a good sparring partner here, too.

Juice was getting more attention today than the cookies, and while Ino idly listened to the lecture--blah blah blah sparing but don't hurt anyone blah blah blah--most of her attention was focused on her notebook as she reread her notes from her dad and scribbled in comments at points.

Ino peeked over the edge of her notebook at Jen and grinned.

"Good," she said, nodding. "I think she just wants another point of view and, like, make sure you're sure 'bout it all?"

Jennifer showed up, and frowned at the idea of sparring today. For one, she wasn't wearing a stretchy enough shirt. Also, she liked these jeans.

Oooh, juice! Never one to turn down free food, Firekeeper grabbed a cup and was nibbling at a cookie as she listened to the sparring instructions.

Tahiri had a couple of cookies today, but mostly stuck to the juice and, after class, was a bit pathetically grateful for the lack of pie.

Zack was there, bouncing from foot to foot, grinning. He'd had an awesome round of training over the weekend back in Midgar, and he was feeling pretty darn plucky today, yes indeed.

Layla was in a good mood this morning as she bounced up to Zack with a wrapped gift semi-hidden behind her back.

"Hi!" Layla chirped. "I'm a girl! Welcome back!"

"Oh? So I'm charming?" Layla said with flirty smile. "Good to know. I did get you a little gift."

She produced the box (http://cache.wists.com/thumbnails/7/2b/72b2f65a132313fefe701019a6d05121-orig) which had a plush green "bird" inside.

If Zack were to squeeze such bird it would let out a "WARK!" in response.

"Just a little something to say thank you for cheering me up the other day. I really appreciated it."
