Girls with Guns [Wednesday after classes]

Today Triela only had one, admittedly large, gun case out for today's demonstration.

"You're not going to get to use this one today because there's not really enough space, but I do want to give you a chance to see a sniper rifle. This is a Heckler and Koch PSG1. It's a sniper rifle designed primarily for medium range work. If you remember the battle rifle from last week, this one uses the same ammunition. The longer barrel and greater mass of the weapon give it greater accuracy."

"It's also semi-automatic, which means it's relatively rapid-firing. Semi-automatics aren't as accurate for a number or reasons, but they're perfectly good for medium range work. If anyone wants to take a look at it I'd be glad to let you get a feel for the weapon, but the range here is too short for a real demonstration."

"And that's it! You're welcome to work with any of the stuff we've talked about. Now get to it."

"Blasters... that's coherent energy rather than physical bullets, right?" Triela wasn't entirely sure how those worked.

"High energy particle beams, typically," Tahiri said; she'd grown up around Anakin and Jaina, after all, and you couldn't at least learn something about mechanics hanging out with them. And you really had to know how a blaster worked to know how to take care of it; whatever shortcomings she'd had in that respect had been drilled out of her by the Wraiths on Coruscant. Thanks, Kell. She pulled her blaster from its holster and pointed out the power pack and gas cartridge. "The power source energizes the gas, and the blaster compresses it all with lasers to form the bolt."

"So it isn't affected by wind conditions and doesn't fall over range due to gravity?" Triela asked. Because she had precisely zero experience with high energy particle beams.

Tahiri nodded. "At least, in my experience I've never seen that as a problem. It's nice not to have to carry around ammunition, either. Of course, the downside, depending on who you ask, is that the bolts can be deflected by a lightsaber."

Because there were so many people with those. Well, in Fandom there were.

"I don't have a lot of pull, but I can ask," Tahiri said thoughtfully. "You could ask Ben? I know he has a sniper rifle, if you want to see what ours are like."
