4th floor common room - Late morning

Mayhap she should have asked Jonothon for help. It'd have been faster, of that she was certain. She'd seen one of the instructors of the gym insert the shiny disc in a black box and then there'd been images on the television. So far, she'd managed to turn on the television. And then she was stuck.

"You could help," she accused Pounce.

You need to learn to find your own way, Pounce told her, staying on his spot on the coffee table to observe her.

Sarden cat. "I'd not have taught this is of great importance," she told Pounce and randomly started pushing buttons on the black boxes underneath the television.

She'd hit a button and the stereo installation lit up, music suddenly blaring through the common room. Pounce yowled and Beka hit the button again. Silence returned instantly, but Beka thought she'd might be deaf for the rest of the day.

[Open, of course. Pounce's responses not for radio, please. Since no one but Beka can understand him.]

With a trip to Elsewhere planned for tomorrow, Jonas was planning on sticking close to the dorms to prepare himself. Sticking close to the dorms didn't mean he had to stay in his room which meant he was on the fourth floor, walking thoughtfully when he heard the music suddenly erupt from the area of the common room.

With that kind of thing happening, Jonas couldn't help sticking his head in and frowning. "Hello. What were you doing in here?"

Beka gave him a sheepish look. "I'm trying to find out how to do sommat," she said. "That was not the way. I apologize if I startled you."

She'd startled herself as well. As she did Pounce, who was giving her a dirty look.

"I accept your apology but there's no need," he assured her, coming more inside. "I was down the hall anyway. It was just loud. Was that some sort of music?"

"I think so," she got to her feet and took a step away from the television. It felt safer. "I'm not certain, I just heard noise and turned it off." She rubbed her ear.

Stepping closer, Jonas found himself peering at her ear while she rubbed it. "Are you all right? Did you need me to get you something?"

She shook her head, giving him a smile in thanks for his concern. "I'm well. Twas really loud, no more."

"Maybe it won't sound so loud and painful if the volume is lowered?" Jonas suggested, peering at the television first and then the stereo. He wasn't sure which had made the sounds but process of elimination had him peering at those two appliances since he somewhat knew what the other things in the common room did.

"Tis possible I changed the sound when I was trying to find a way to open the box," she said. She wasn't touching aught now.

"What were you hoping to listen to?" Jonas asked curiously. "I know there are several genres of music but I didn't recognize what I heard."

Of course, that might have been because it was so loud and his ears more wanted to retreat than listen.

With the door to her room open, the noise was just enough to bring Mirax down to investigate. "What was that?"

"Music. I think," Beka replied, giving Mirax an apologetic look. "I hit the wrong button."

Mirax smiled, admitting, "I might have done that once. What were you trying to do?"

Beka pushed to her feet and grabbed one of the DVDs, showing it to Mirax. And yes, it was an aerobics DVD. "I'm supposed to watch these for work. I know the discs inside have sommat to see on television, but I've no idea how to get it to show."

"You have to watch aerobics for work?" she repeated, just to make sure she heard right.

"Yes," she made a face. "I started working at the gym and one of the instructors said I should learn." She paused. "I think there must be better ways to stay in shape."

"Ahhh," Mirax said, understanding. "There probably are, but no others will let you flail around and look funny while doing it."

She paused. "I think."

"I hope," Beka chuckled. "I'd not want to be learning another one that makes you look like a looby."

Mirax grinned, asking, "Do you get to teach this stuff at the gym?"

"Hello," Jonas said, giving Mirax a brief wave when he noticed her. "Did you hear the sound too?"

She nodded. "It got me to break the monotony of packing, though, so I think I'm grateful. How are you, Jonas?"

"Well, thank you for asking," he said, nodding back. "Are you going Elsewhere tomorrow also?"

"Elsewhere... You mean the trip?" she checked. "Yeah, I figure it's going to be pretty boring around here otherwise. Are you ready for it?"

"Absolutely not," he said and laughed to cover his nervousness. "I've never been on a trip that's organized like this. While I realize it'll be supervised to a point, the ones I've been on previously were strictly supervised without any sort of...ability to explore on your own."

"That sounds like absolutely no fun at all," she admitted. "So this'll be good for you. Give you a little chance to roam around, and there'll be plenty of people around to go along."

"Have you been to the location?" he wondered since she seemed comfortable and knowledgeable with the concept.
