Third Floor Common Room, Wednesday Afternoon

After spending the past few days in a place that made his bones - if he was going to be sentimental - thrum with a distinct sense of belonging, where the trees were just the right shade of green (again in this hypothetical state of sentimentality) and people seemed to genuinely get any number of things that were rarely gotten around here (even if he had been told, several times, that he was 'a bit posh, aren't you', to the point of annoyance, including one or two spots of combining that word with some rather unflattering language) Fandom seemed a little... stark.

Too restless to hole up in his room, Arthur eventually gave in to the idea that maybe the common room would be slightly less depressing. It was an idea he was swiftly abandoning as he poked at a can of orange juice and eyed the Teevee remote.

Nope. Still not tempted. There was that.

Didi selected another date and held it as she spoke. "Mat, anyhow," she said, and shrugged. "You'd remember Jono if you knew him. He's the cute English guy who smells like something burning and talks inside your head."

Which just made him sound so appealing, but Didi clearly liked him. "We had a good time. I liked the decorations."

"No, I haven't met him," Leto said. He didn't have any prejudices against burning smells or telepathic communication, but he preferred not to have people in his mind. "Does he read minds too?"

"I was told that pumpkins should be carved into lanterns, though," he added, smiling. "But I'm not sure I have a strong opinion on the matter."

Didi shook her head. "No, he just can't talk the usual way. No reading minds It's ... kind of soothing once you're used to it."

She munched on the date as she deliberated the question of pumpkins. "I'd say pie," she decided. "Pie beats lanterns."

To Leto the connection between pumpkins and pies wasn't as obvious. "Pie? Any kind of pie?"

"Well, yes, any kind of pie is better than a lantern," Didi said dubiously. "I was thinking of pumpkin pie, though. You haven't had it?"

This, her tone suggested, was a pity.

"No, I haven't had the pleasure," he said with a smile.

"I'll make some this weekend," Didi said. "... or get some from the bakery in town. That would be faster."

She was capable of being lazy.

"Either way, I could help you eat them," he said, laughing.

"But then I don't get a whole pie to myself," Didi mock-pouted. "I'll have some in one of the common rooms this weekend, promise."

"If you start praising pies you have to accept that you make others curious," he teased. "If you want them all to yourself don't tell anyone."
