Samhain Celebration - Main Campfire of the Cabins, Sunday, Dusk

Having handwavilyomg put up some very, very poorly spelled signs with Tara for people to know about this, Merlin was more than happy to get things started.

If only because there had been some rather insistent candy yesterday and he'd tried some out of pity and now believed Halloween may be evil. So, there was that.

But he had everything all set up and hopefully there wouldn't be an attack of some also horrible sweet from his time. But this was Fandom, so that was an actual concern. Damn Fandom.

Tara circled the bonfires properly, then took an apple and hung out by one, watching the flames dance.

"I'm now considering roast apples." Diana informed Tara as she walked over, cat firmly in her arms. "What do you think - disgusting or interesting?"

"They're apples," Tara said with a smile. "Th-there's no bad with apples, unless they're all bruised and gross."

"Ick." Diana agreed. "So...putting an apple on a stick and sticking it in the flames to see what will happen?"

She might get a Kennedy sneaking up on her at some point too, in a manner that was not so much sneaky as casually sauntering over, hands in her pockets. "Hey."

"Hey," Tara said, grinning and not at all surprised by the unsneaky sneaking. "Are you having a good time?"
brat_inslayage: (Thoughtful)

"Yeah. I don't really get it, but it's cool," Kennedy assured her. She might just be taking a moment to appreciate the firelight view. "You helped put this together?"

"Me and Merlin," Tara confirmed. "... mostly Merlin told me what to do and I looked stuff up. Th-this is a big holiday back home for him."

"So not so much for you, then?" Kennedy guessed. "And here I was hoping to get your expert explanation about the whole thing."

Tara shook her head. "My mom would do little things?" she explained. "But big Samhain festivals, that's -- that's more Merlin's territory."

"What did you want to know?"

Kennedy shrugged. "Well, what's the deal with the two fires? And is it supposed to, you know, do anything, the whole festival thing?" With a grin, she added, "Whatever you want to tell, really."

"The two fires are so you can walk between them and come out purified for the new year," Tara said. "It's the end of the harvest. People used to believe the barrier between life and the afterlife was really thin right about now."
brat_inslayage: (Hmm)

"That sounds vaguely familiar," Kennedy mused; her Watcher must have said something along those lines once, followed by something about how it tended to be the slowest time of the year for the Slayer. Which was probably why Kennedy hadn't paid that much attention to it. "Do people still believe it?"
