Magic Reserves, Wenesday Afternoon, The Preserve

When people began arriving at the meeting today, they would see that things were a bit different than usual today. For one thing, the snack table has it's usual assortment of warm beverages, but was missing the normal variety of snacks and there were a handwavey number of wooden chests piled off to the side, each one sporting a heavy iron padlock on the front.

"Greetings," Karla said, looking a bit more composed than she had at the last meeting. "We've got a fair bit to do today, so we should probably get started quickly. First, we have a talk from Tara, who was kind enough to volunteer this week," she paused to give Tara a grateful smile, "and then, we have an activity."

Merlin nodded and stepped forward. "Inside these chests is... pie." Oh, it was so spooky and magical sounding. "But, as you see, they're rather firmly locked up. So, the exercise today will be to get the contents of the box--unharmed--using whatever skills you have at your
disposal."

Mmm, pie. "Fresh-baked," Tony added. "And if you get one out, it's all yours."

Karla was really regretting that the three of them hadn't had enough time to bake the pies themselves, but hopefully J,GoB pies would be an acceptable substitute. "So, let's give Tara our attention--and a pie of her own for volunteering--and then we'll see how well your pie-retrieving skills are."

They were doing that hand-contact thing rather often. Tara did not exactly hate it.

Kennedy was not really objecting either.

"Good," she said, and with a quick wink (she couldn't help it) added, "I'll work on that head thing. Otherwise how would I get those chocolate croissants I said I'd keep around?"

Tara laughed again. "Maybe I should come visit you and see if you have them."

Getting Tara to laugh, Kennedy decided, was even more fun than getting her to smile.

"What, like a pop quiz? Maybe I just want you to check up on me."

Tara seemed to laugh a lot around Kennedy. She did it again.

... in part because she couldn't think of what to say. Oh, wait, she had it.

"Maybe I'd do that even if you didn't have croissants."

That-- made Kennedy really grin. "You're not gonna see me complaining. If we really wanted to do something crazy, there could even be hanging out somewhere else sometime."

"Like ... not here or in the dorms?" Tara glanced at Kennedy, meeting her eyes. "Where?"

"How do you feel about coffee?" Kennedy suggested. "Or other, non-caffeinated alternatives if hyper's not your thing?"

"I drink coffee!" Tara said.

Especially if it had lots of chocolate and/or sugar in it. "I'm free pretty much any day but Thursday."

"Monday, maybe? It'll be a high point in my otherwise incredibly long Friday-to-Thursday weekend." Kennedy finally remembered that there might be other people who might actually want to talk to Tara and-- not without some reluctance, it might be noted-- let her hand drop. "I better stop monopolizing your time, huh? So the actual magic users can learn something."

Tara glanced around. Kennedy was right but she was still faintly disappointed. "... yeah, that's a good idea," she said. "See you Monday."
