icecoldfrost: (Emma is smoking)

Dorm Roof, Sunday Evening

It was a bit chilly out, but that didn't really deter Emma. She actually sort of liked fall, with the wind and the leaves, especially now that she didn't have to worry about finding a place to sleep once it got cold.

She let her lungs fill with smoke before exhaling, glancing down at the latest assignment for her AP Algebra course. It was nights like this that made her wonder why she'd agreed to the extra work of distance-classes in the first place. She could be out at the bar, but no, she had more homework to do.

Maybe if she was lucky, someone would show up and give her an excuse to ignore her numbers for a bit.

[Open roof is open! Distract me from the impending Monday!]

"Makes it clear that y'wouldn' be noble either," George said with a bit of grin. "They never do understand tha' for all their pretty talk about bein' friends wit' th' servants an' playin' in th' forest."

Jack was smiling slightly as he shook his head. "Nothing like. I'm a servant who had some good luck in who bought his contract. I can't say the nobles I've met spend much time in the forest ...?"

Then again, they were all vampires.

George shrugged. He might've been conflicted about certain queens with their jewels and pretty blonde hair but it didn' mean he was gossiping about it.

"Tisn't a matter," he admitted. He cast a slightly cynical eye over Jack. "How does a servant have a contact?"

Jack cast an eye right back at him and clasped his hands behind his back. "It's how things work in my world. My indentureship papers, I meant. They were bought out a few years ago, so legally I'm my own man."

He smiled a bit. "Rather boring, really."

"Tisn't," George argued instantly. "Never tis a borin' thing t'be yer own man an' standin' on yer own."
