Frankly speaking, a Mat Cauthon with too much time on his hands was a kind of terrifying thing.

Witness example number one: Mat, in a common room, juggling an apple, two spoons, and a carving knife.

At least he wasn't blindfolded?

"How many balls were you trying to juggle?" Mat asked. "I started with three."

"Three," Zayne said, just a tiny bit sheepishly.

Mat laughed. "I'm sorry," he said. "Maybe you just don't have the hands for it."

"I've never been the most coordinated guy," Zayne admitted.

"So asking if you dance would be another mistake?" Mat teased.

"No, I do that. I just choose not to be embarrassed about it," Zayne said.

Mat laughed again. "A good bloody philosophy," he said. "Have you found a pretty girl to dance with?"

"Not recently, but I have at a few dances," Zayne admitted.

"We need to bloody fix that," Mat decided. "I have more than enough to go around. I can introduce you!"

This was probably a terrible idea.

"Well, I'm not really looking to date or anything right now," Zayne said.

But he was pretty clearly intrigued. Because, you know, teenage boy.

And maybe a little disturbed by the 'more than enough to go around' comment.

Mat winked. "Who said anything about a girlfriend?" he said. "There are far too many people here who are too bloody invested in the soulmates forever sheep swollop."

"It definitely wouldn't be forever with me," Zayne said. "The Jedi frown on those kinds of attachments."But just a night out with somebody is fine." While he was still a Padawan, at least....

"I'll ask around," Mat decided. "Any particular woman you favor? Blondes, brunettes, really curvy..."

"Um, no, not really," Zayne said. "Just someone who's nice, I guess."

"Does she have to hold up her end of a conversation or is that not really a concern?" Mat asked.

"I'd prefer it if she could," Zayne said. "It's more fun if it's someone you can actually talk with."

Zayne and Mat may not have had the same definition of fun.

"It's also fun when there's no time for talking," Mat replied.

"I generally like to find some more time for talking," Zayne said, catching Mat's drift pretty quickly.

"Then you might be doing it wrong," Mat said, laughing.

Mat looked Terribly Wounded. Really. "Don't you trust me?"

Most people didn't, no.

"I promise not to set you up with a woman who bites," Mat said, then grinned. "Unless you ask her to."
