Behind the Dorms, Tuesday Afternoon

"Okay, guys," Zack said, stepping to the forefront of the Reserves meeting and grinning, his hands on his hips. "Today we're going to follow the lead of the Magic Reserves, and start focusing on sharing the more specific talents of the people in this group. But with a twist! While plenty of the stuff that they have over in the Magic corps is specific to just the person giving the demonstrations, the benefit to working physically is that plenty of the skills that each of us have can be taught to one another! Maybe you've got proficiency in a weapon that nobody else here seems to know, or else you've got awesome tracking skills and think that we could stand to learn how to use them, too! Or you might have something as simple as a training exercise that you've seen put to use back home that you think we could benefit from, here. If you have something to share with the group, I'm sure we'd all be thankful that you offered up the time to teach us!"

Zack, for example, would teach the group the fine art of smuggling cookies into serious meetings of an almost militaristic nature. The trick, of course, was to leave them in his pockets and give them to people who asked nicely.

And Arthur would be onto him eventually. He was just keeping an eye out. "So if you are prepared to share, step up to us this week. You may bring your own tale to the front this week, give us a demonstration, and please come up to have a word with us if you would like to demonstrate some time in the coming weeks, or would be willing to offer your services in training, or leading the reserves through a training exercise. We are here to learn from each other as best we can, and so each other is the best resource we've got."

He gave a nod to those gathered, then took a step back. Only to take a step back later to give his own round-up.

Zack was there, never fear!

And he totally had the cookies, too! He was even munching on one absently when he thought Arthur wasn't looking, thinking on things that he could teach that were shiny and unique. There had to be something.

"Cookie," Ino demanded, with a winsome smile and an added, "please. Hi!"

Notice, though, that the cookie had been more important than the greeting. Or something.

Hey! Cookies were very important!

Zack laughed and dug around in his pocket until he located the munchy thing in question, and then he held it aloft (somewhat aloft, at least. He didn't want to make too much of a show of it around Arthur) for Ino to take.

"Cookie! And hi! How goes it, Ino?"

Besides, if he held it too much aloft then Ino would have to leap for it and that was just undignified.

Either way, she totally snagged her cookie from him. "Thank you!" She grinned. "Pretty good, I guess? Not a huuuge amount going on lately, you know? Missions are slow which sucks."

"Tell me about it," Zack sighed, and there went his frowny face, getting a ten-second workout. "Maybe with any luck, we'll both get called back for jobs, soon. ShinRa hasn't contacted me since last month."

Yes, when Angeal went missing. And so the puppy was actually getting anxious, or something.

"Not at all?" she asked, nibbling on her cookie. "Is that normal? No contact 'less they've got a job for you?"

Ino was still totally sticking with her theory of Angeal was Deep Undercover, if only for Zack's sake because she wasn't entirely convinced of it herself though it was possible, from what she knew.

And Zack had started to settle on the notion that whatever Angeal was doing, it was steeped deeply in honor, and he'd call any day now to tell Zack that everything was alright, and then things could get back to normal!

"That's pretty much the norm, yeah. Now and again, I get updates on company business, but those are forwards that get sent to everybody. Why would they contact me, unless they had something for me to do?"

"Status reports 'bout what you're doing?" Ino said, shrugging a bit. "Or, I don't know, I get most my news from home through friends, you know?"

Zack laughed and nodded a little.

"That'd be Kunsel," he replied. "A friend of mine in SOLDIER. He knows a lot of the stuff that's going on, in town and in the company both. But the company really doesn't seem to care what I'm doing here, so long as I'm not failing all of my classes."

Because as a 2nd Class, Zack was still pretty much a nonentity. If he ever got a promotion, that might change!

"I'm not even sure it is possible to fail your classes here," she commented idly. "Otherwise I bet we'd have a few seniors sticking 'round a lot longer."

Ino made a face. "Still, ugh, totally no fun when missions aren't on. Geeez, even if you do get the gossip."

How else was she supposed to get her adrenaline fix/do her job?

"They're probably focusing on politics or something, since we've pretty much won the Wutai War," Zack mused, idly crossing his arms over his chest.

He'd pretty much won the Wutai War, but it wasn't as though he'd heard anything about it from anyone. At all. Ever. It was kinda disheartening, really. "Maybe it's sorta the same thing for you, too? Red tape?"

"Probably," she admitted, sighing. "Which is boooring."

Notably less boring if you were on a level high enough to be involved, it should be noted.

"Anyway," Ino continued, "I got a question for you! Maybe even several!"

"Oooh, I like questions," Zack decided, grinning. "Fire away!"

Questions! Woo!

"So, like, this whole show off and maybe teach thing," Ino said, tilting her head. "What should I teach, please?"

Ino, think up your own ideas, geez.

Zack blinked at that question, yes.

"What should you teach? Well, what can you do?" He tapped his foot on the ground, thinking that over for a moment. "How about stealth, or something like that? How are you at that sort of thing?"

Ino gave him a bit of a sheepishly apologetic look.

"I keep running into 'oh, but this and this took me years to learn' so I guess my question is more of a 'help me, please' thing than a 'make up my mind, please'?"

Or something.

"And I'm good at stealth," she kinda had to be, really, team ten was not high on pure power, here, "but there's, like, all sorts of stealth."

Zack pursed his lips at that, and then shrugged.

"Are there any weapons that you use, at all, that nobody else here does? Or maybe even just... pick a kind of stealth?"

He was at a bit of a loss, really. Especially considering he had no idea what to teach people, himself. After all, 'I am really, really strong as a result of some kind of genetic surgery' was sort of difficult to share with the group. And Arthur had already covered swords.

Blind leading the blind!

Or something. That was sort of Ino's thing tonight, the or something.

"I don't think many people use wire or kunai or shuriken here," she admitted. "But kunai are just another type of throwing knife and I don't wanna, like, bore people 'cause those are things I can tell you the basics quick enough but you gotta really practice to make work."

Teaching was hard!

"I think if people didn't want to practise to make things work, they wouldn't be at these meetings in the first place," Zack pointed out, laughing a little. "Maybe we put out some targets or something, and then get people to throw them?"

... Actually, that would probably be dangerous, out here.

"Or better yet, we take people to the range or to the Salle, to work with things like that. That way, there's no chance of anyone who isn't involved in the Reserves just out and wandering in front of flying pointy things."

... This was why Zack was a leader and Ino wasn't.

She made a face at him about the safety issue. "Maybe?" she said, tugging her hair. "Though I feel awful to admit that it doesn't terribly thrill me to do something we covered in the Academy."

At, like, six years old.

Thirty six year olds throwing weapons of DEATH around and only two teachers. Clearly the teachers were badass.

Badass, or insane! Either or!

"Well, do you have anything else to offer up?" Zack pursed his lips a little, and then offered her a lopsided grin. "You could make it more interesting by offering prizes to people who gets bullseyes, or maybe using some kind of penalty on people who miss a certain amount of times. Like, I don't know, miss three times, and it's a pie to the face!"

... Brilliant, Zack.

"...that could be a useful teaching tool," she said brightly.

Oh Ino, no.

"I could totally pie everyone who sucks at it." She chewed her lip. "Though that might make it more fun for me than for anyone else."

Yes, probably.

"I, uh, I could talk for ages 'bout plants and stuff? Or basic first aid? But that's more support than fighting..."

Zack pursed his lips a little, thinking that over, too. Lots of thinking today! He was very thoughtful, that Zack.

"Have you ever been to a support meeting? I haven't, yet, but I think they'd probably be thrilled if someone wanted to teach them about stuff like that." A pause, and then he shrugged. "And, you know, some first aid couldn't hurt us, either. After all, there isn't always time to rummage for a potion or chase down a healer on the field. If people here can learn to dress wounds, then all the better for us."

"I haven't," she admitted, "or to a magic one either and I probably could go to that, really, with the definition of magic being so loose, but I don't know--this was the one I wanted to be part of. I don't need to have more conflicting loyalties if an issue comes up."

Ino grinned a bit, at that. "True enough--I can do a lot more than the basics, myself, but yeah, some stuff is useful all 'round." She considered it. "Maybe? I don't really want to teach anybody 'bout assassination, so that's definitely an option. Though maybe sabotage too..."

Zack seemed to perk right up at that last one.

"Sabotage?"
