Hannibal knew that, technically, he should be spending his free time practicing so he wouldn't make a huge fool of himself when he finally fulfilled his requirements for losing his bet with Kate. Instead, he was sprawling in the common room, lights off, with a loud, action packed movie on the television. He'd ordered himself a pizza and decided that pretending that he didn't have humiliation in his future was a much better plan.

A little later, Didi leaned over toward Hayley.

"Hi," she said, and waited.

"Oh, hey Didi," Hayley replied, smiling at her friend. "Hannibal here doesn't like musicals. Can you believe that?"

"He's a boy," Didi said, as if that explained many things. "Boys think singing in movies is unmanly, or something."

"... so what were you talking to Jono about?"

"Oh, I was just jokin' that he could come hold my hand during the scary parts," Hayley replied with a succinct nod. "But he said he's already got a girl, so I was just lightly teasin', you know? He seemed really nice."

Hayley was slightly oblivious to any annoyance she'd caused Jono.

"He is," Didi said slowly. "He's been through a lot, but he's really, really, really nice. Especially to his girl."

She was wondering when Hayley would buy a clue.

This was Hayley. If she bought a clue, she'd lose it in the couch cushions of her mind.

"Is that why he's got all those bandages? I mean, you could still tell from his eyes he was gorgeous, though. Was it an accident. That poor thing."

"... yeah, that's something that it's up to him to tell you," Didi said, and it was only remembering she was technically millions of years old that kept her voice calm. "I don't think he's too hard on the eyes these days."

"Oh, it must be really awful," Hayley said, clutching a hand to her heart. "But I won't pressure him to tell me or anything. That's his own private business. But I'll be extra nice to him."

"You aren't worried about what his girlfriend will think about you being extra nice to him?" Didi wondered mildly.

"Oh, well, it's not like it'd be anything like that," Hayley said. "He seems to be the real loyal type, and anyway, I'm no man stealer."

Didi reached over and tried to pat Hayley on the head. "Good girl. Especially when we're talking about my man."

Hayley's jaw dropped. "You shoulda said somethin'!" she said. "I mean it, though. I wasn't even really trying to get him to hold my hand, honest."

"I was interested in how deep a hole you'd dig," Didi said, utterly unrepentant. "No offense. Anyhow, even if you really tried, he's the one who would be cheating, not you, right?"

"But I wouldn't want to hurt you like that," Hayley said, shaking her head frantically. "Never, ever, ever. You've been nothing but nice to me and that'd just be awful."

"I'm usually nice," Didi said. "I mean, thank you, but it's just as easy to be nice, right? And it's more fun."

"I wish everyone thought like that," Hayley said. "It'd make the world a lot easier."

She meant that, too.

"Probably," Didi had to agree. "And we wouldn't waste so much time arguing and being angry."

"What a world that'd be," Hayley said, sighing happily. "All sunshine and circuses and laughter."
