5th Floor Common Room -- Sunday Evening

She'd managed to forget that there was a party going on until late enough that she'd have felt sort of weird showing up—not to mention 'bout the fact that Ino was a bit weirded out by the idea of showing up at some strange grown-up's place for a party—and so, with her Santa hat perched jauntily on her head, she'd wandered into her common room to make hot chocolate.

It was totally seasonal. And so was the candy cane she was nibbling on. The candy was obviously the best part of this holiday, especially for someone who only had the vaguely concept of what the holiday entailed beyond 'shiny presents'.

But presents? Were pretty awesome too. She leaned against the counter and sipped her hot chocolate idly.

"Well," Ino pointed out, over her hot chocolate. "Technically you could leave him alone for it, yes."

"And feel guilty every minute I'm still here," Jennifer said. "Technically."

"True!" Ino laughed. "But still, you said it like you have no choice! There's always a choice!"

"Well, there really isn't a choice, given I don't want to be guilty and I love my dad," Jennifer said. "The other options aren't worth considering."

Ino just waved one hand.

"You see no choice, I see choice," she answered, shrugging.

"I guess you like seeing the technicalities," Jennifer said. "But sometimes, even when there is a choice, there isn't really one."

"Nooo," she said slowly. "It just means that another choice sucks. Don't mean it ain't one though."

"If you look at it like that, though, everything is choices," Jennifer said. "Which I guess is true. But it's some choices that you really shouldn't even think are choices."

Ino...

Didn't really look at the world that way.

"Like what?"

"Well, like... right now, I have the choice between talking with you, or just... punching you in the face. Which is a crazy choice," Jennifer said. "Not something you should think about."

Ino was pretty sure she wasn't supposed to...

"Why?"

"Because... it's crazy?" Jennifer said.

"No?" Ino said. "I mean, you wouldn't punch me 'cause you like me and 'cause I hit back. That makes more sense than not doing it 'cause it's wrong."

"...I think I just hurt my brain," Jennifer said.

She thought 'because its wrong' was the important part first.

"Getting it fixed might be a good idea," Ino smartassed.

Braaat.

"Know any good brain surgeons?" Jennifer asked.

"Not that'd want a green patient," she said apologetically.

"Hey, I think that's discriminatory," Jennifer said. "Green people need doctors too."

She gave that a slight shrug.

"Can't blame people when there ain't many green people 'round," she pointed out. "Doctors can turn patients away."

"They can," Jennifer said. "But turning away a soon-to-be lawyer is a bad idea, I think."

Ino... thought it was pretty sad that Jen really believed that.

"If you want to think so," she said, shrugging.

Because people would see 'green' and go 'monster'.

"I do," Jennifer said. "If I'm going to be a lawyer for justice, I'm going to be one that can argue a discrimination case against mean doctors, that's for sure."
