5th Floor Common Room -- Sunday Evening

She'd managed to forget that there was a party going on until late enough that she'd have felt sort of weird showing up—not to mention 'bout the fact that Ino was a bit weirded out by the idea of showing up at some strange grown-up's place for a party—and so, with her Santa hat perched jauntily on her head, she'd wandered into her common room to make hot chocolate.

It was totally seasonal. And so was the candy cane she was nibbling on. The candy was obviously the best part of this holiday, especially for someone who only had the vaguely concept of what the holiday entailed beyond 'shiny presents'.

But presents? Were pretty awesome too. She leaned against the counter and sipped her hot chocolate idly.

Jennifer obliged, taking a seat near Jaime and reaching for the mug.

"The story starts with my cousin, Dr. Bruce Banner. He's a scientist," she said. "Who was doing research on gamma radiation."

"..." Jaime eyed her for a second. "This totally sounds like a super-hero origin story..."

"Well, it kind of is," Jennifer said. "Well, for me at least. I'm... not so sure what Doc is, yet."

She frowned a little.

"Seriously?" Jaime's eyes widened. "That's awesome!"

Wait...

"Er. I hope it's awesome?"

"Well, see, my cousin got hit with a lot of gamma radiation. And now when he gets angry he turns into a giant green Hulk and kind of... goes nuts."

"I... hope that doesn't mean you're angry?"

"We'll get there eventually," Jennifer said. "But when I was home a few months ago, I got met by Bruce at the airport. And then I got shot and he had to give me an emergency transfusion to save my life... which put that gamma radiation in my blood, too."

"So... big and green," Jaime nodded in understanding.

"When I got angry," Jennifer said. "But then I went home and got sick. Really sick. My blood was killing itself. And I had to turn to a... scientist who'd turned himself into a vampire to save me."

"... a vampire?" This was getting weirder and weirder.

"But he wasn't undead, it as a science mishap," Jennifer said. "But he knew everything about blood and made a serum that saved my life. And because of it, I now can choose when I change to and from this."

"Oh, so it's like..." the Scarab. "That's neat. And... I guess you like being big, green, and totally hot?"

"Plus super strong and super tough," Jennifer said. "It's really a total package deal."

"A pretty sweet package," Jaime laughed.

"Why thank you," Jennifer said. "You too can have this, for the price of some... rather unpleasant trauma."

"I'm not so good with trauma," Jaime grimaced. The Scarab hurt after all. "So... I think I'll pass."

"Yeah," Jennifer said. "But now, well... I'm pretty awesome."

"I guess that if you're go ing to have to go through all that trauma, at least you got something awesome out of it."

"Exactly," Jennifer said. "So really, I may have won on the deal."

"And you look good doing it," he agreed.

"Why thank you," Jennifer said, not blushing because, well, it's hard to blush when you're green. "That's very sweet of you to say."

Jaime shrugged and grinned. "Just telling the truth."
