The Roof, late Saturday Afternoon

Raven had spent a great deal of the day watching the snow fall outside her window before making her way up to the roof for a better view. The pristine blanket of white that covered the island took her breath away -- as did the drop in temperature. But for now, the view and the still heavily-falling snow dazzled her more than the cold bothered her, and she was so enchanted by her first sight of snow that soon she was spinning in circles, arms outstretched, catching snowflakes on her fingers and tongue.

It would get old. Eventually.

"Well, when it's fallin', sure," Hayley said. "But it sure can get ugly fast, on the ground."

"But look," Raven said, swinging one arm out toward the Preserve. "It is not ugly at all."

"Oh, well, out here," Hayley said. "You never seen a Gotham winter."

Raven shook her head. "And my mother never spoke much of her home."

"Well, it's a city. With cars and sewage and dirt, ya know? The snow can't hide that," Hayley said.

"Not even for a little while?" Raven said, frowning a little. Azarath was beautiful, and Fandom was lovely as well, so it was hard to imagine living in place that was ugly.

"Well, maybe out in the suburbs," Hayley said. "The rich neighborhoods... not where I lived."

"Why would you stay in a place that was dirty and ugly?" Raven had to ask.

Hayley just laughed. "Not like I had a choice."

"Why not?" Raven asked. "Were you bound to that place?"

Hayley gave Raven a look.

"I only got to leave cause I got arrested."

Raven shook her head. "There are so many things I do not understand about this world," she said. "It is so different from Azarath."

"Guess you didn't have poor people in Azarath, huh?"

Hayley's family was not poor, they just didn't spoil Hayley. To her, these concepts were indistinguishable.

"Money was not a concern in Azarath," Raven said. "Everything was shared. Like good little socialists."

"Sounds... kinda weird," Hayley said. "Everything, really?"

"Everything," Raven said. "Food was shared among the community, and clothing was provided for any who needed it by those with the skill to make it."

"...Gee, that sounds both really nice, and kinda... boring," Hayley said.

"How do you mean, boring?" Raven asked. "Azarath was very quiet, yes, not compared to this place, but we were not bored." If she ever went back, though....

"I dunno," Hayley said. "Unless the people were reeeeally pretty, it sounds like it might get a little dull."

"...what does appearance have to do with it?" Raven said, confused.

"Well, what else are you gonna do if everything else you want is free?" Hayley said.

"Study," Raven said. "And meditation."

"I did not find it boring!" Raven insisted.

"Well... I dunno," Hayley said. "But it doesn't sound like I want to visit there."

She shrugged. "Sorry."
