The Roof, late Saturday Afternoon

Raven had spent a great deal of the day watching the snow fall outside her window before making her way up to the roof for a better view. The pristine blanket of white that covered the island took her breath away -- as did the drop in temperature. But for now, the view and the still heavily-falling snow dazzled her more than the cold bothered her, and she was so enchanted by her first sight of snow that soon she was spinning in circles, arms outstretched, catching snowflakes on her fingers and tongue.

It would get old. Eventually.

Oh, a topic change! Jaime grabbed on with both hands. "Oh, yeah! My parents would totally kill me if I didn't head back for Christmas." Well, not really.

"I envy you for that," Raven said. "I will be remaining here."

"Aww... that's too bad," Jaime said. "Nowhere to go?"

"I cannot return home," Raven said. "This place has changed me too much. But I will not be alone here, at least. I know others will be staying as well."

"Well, maybe next time you can go hang out with someone when they go home. I mean, people here do that kind of thing, right?"

"Perhaps," Raven said. "Karla had mentioned a trip home, but many of my friends come from worlds where I would not fit in."

"Why not?" Jaime asked. "It's not like you stand out all that much." Which wasn't supposed to be an insult...

"I am socially...awkward," Raven said. "As you can probably guess from the mistletoe."

Jaime tried not to, but he couldn't help bursting into laughter at that. It wasn't a laugh at her expense, but a part of him worried that she'd take it that way.

Raven stared at Jaime in confusion. "What do you find funny about that?" she said.

"Raven," Jaime managed to gasp as he got control of himself. "Socially awkward isn't how most guys I know would describe you after that thing with the mistletoe". Paco would probably go with "incredibly hot".

"How would they describe it then?" Raven asked, hoping he wasn't going to say something like "foolish" or "stupid."

"Well, for what it's worth my buddy Paco would call it 'totally hot'."

"What does the temperature have to do with...oh!" Raven blushed. Again.

Jaime laughed again. "Seriously. I bet you'd fit in just fine!" He grinned. "Actually, I'll let you in on a little secret, if you want..."

"Secret?" Raven asked curiously. "What secret is that?"

[weldedtomyspine]

"The secret is that everyone is socially awkward. The trick is just to pretend you meant to do whatever embarrassing thing you did. Then people will think you're cool."
