Yuletide Party! - By the Dorms, Monday Dusk Till Dawn

Between the dorms and preserve, a moderately sized--if only because dragging over more wood than was already stockpiled nearby was far too much work--fire was lit as the sun set and the longest night of the year began. In the main lobby and by the fire there were much larger supplies of spiced cider and ale.

...look, people in ye olde times really liked to get drunk and light things on fire. It was a time honored tradition.

"You've got family here too," Merlin insisted firmly. "Even if no one is actually related. You're--like a sister. A very scary sister."

That got Karla reaching over to enfold Merlin into a very tight hug. "Thank you," she whispered. "I'd like very much to think of myself as your very scary sister."

Which was good because he was still cold. And, you know, she was warm.

And also... scary sister type person.

"Good! Then it's settled," He said, hugging her back like the overly cheerful drunk he was.

"Are you going to remember this in the morning?" Karla asked with a fond smile for her 'big brother.' "And did you lose your baby owl already?"

"I will!" And be mildly horrified by what he said to Effy. "And he's in my room where it's warm."

Merlin grinned like a proud parent. "His name is Owain."

"Francine told me a bit about him," Karla said, floating over a mug of spiced cider for herself. "I'm impressed. I can give things the illusion of life, but I don't think I can actually bring anything to life."

She took a sip and smiled. Mmm. It was perfect.

"For his---Christ Mass, yes." Pff. Religion. "They all give out gifts for it. Though why you give gifts to people for someone else's birthday..."

"We give out gifts for Windsol, too," Karla pointed out. "Even though it's a celebration of the Darkness and of Witch. I think it's just fun to give presents."
