Yuletide Party! - By the Dorms, Monday Dusk Till Dawn

Between the dorms and preserve, a moderately sized--if only because dragging over more wood than was already stockpiled nearby was far too much work--fire was lit as the sun set and the longest night of the year began. In the main lobby and by the fire there were much larger supplies of spiced cider and ale.

...look, people in ye olde times really liked to get drunk and light things on fire. It was a time honored tradition.

"He is extremely powerful," Raven said. She knew she was probably saying too much, at least out in the open like this, but the ale was loosening her tongue. "I knew he would come for me when I came of age, so I fled Azarath because he would destroy it. I think he knows I am here now, and should he come...I will flee again."

Raven was quiet for a moment. "Karla looked into my future some time ago," she finally said. "She told me she saw that if I stand with those I call friend, it will be difficult, but I could defeat my father. But I cannot bear to think of bringing harm to those I care for. If Karla is wrong, people will die...because of me. How can I take that risk?"

Not when yer don't have to be.// Jono shrugged, laying his guitar down across his lap. Now was not the time for idle picking. //It will be difficult, she said? That makes sense. Nothing worthwhile is ever easy, is it?//

Raven allowed herself a small smile. "I cannot deny that it is a good feeling to know there are people who will not allow me to face my father alone," she said. "Here at least it is different from Azarath. They would not be able to fight him there, and they would die." She sighed. "I hope he will not come for me, but I know that I cannot count on that. One day it will happen."

Said the guy whose past year or so has consisted pretty much solely of running from everything from anti-mutant sentiment to himself.

"Coming here was merely to hide at first," Raven said, "though that is not the case any longer, since my father sent someone to find me. But I have learned much of emotions, and perhaps that will help me against him. And Professor Skywalker has taught me how to shield myself. I am also learning how to defend myself so I am not helpless in the face of a physical attack, and...." She glanced at Jono and smiled. "And I have made many friends."

Raven nodded. "I know," she said, "and thank you. I just hope that I never have the need to call upon your aid. I am not certain what I or anyone else can do against my father." She bit her lip. "He has destroyed worlds."

... Well. That certainly made Jonothon's pep talk seem a little more inappropriately peppy than he'd intended for it to sound. He furrowed his eyebrows a little at what she said, and then, after a brief pause to work that knowledge through his brain, he nodded.

//Then I suppose that only means that if ever it happens, we'll have our work cut out for us.//

Jono was too stubborn to back down, yes.

"If we are lucky, he will have forgotten about me or no longer wish to claim me," Raven said. Doubtful, but one could always hope.

"I think my lucky break was coming here," Raven said. "There have been things that have happened that I wish had not or that I regret, but I have learned so much, and I cannot imagine ever wanting to change that now."
