The deck - Afternoon

Yes, Jacob knew it was January, thank you very much. No, he wasn't wearing shoes. Look, he'd actually dragged the stupid t-shirt with him to avoid odd looks, but there just was no way to fit the shoes in the rubber band that was still tied around his ankle.

He'd done some experimenting and discovered that when he morphed on the island, he couldn't hear any of the other werewolves. Which was cool and worrying at the same time. It also meant he was going to have to actually call home if he wanted to catch up with what was going on. At least that worked, he'd tried it as soon as he'd gotten to his room on Saturday.

He'd slumped down on one of the chairs, his feet propped up on the table as he contemplated his stay so far. Class could have gone better. A lot better. His roomie hadn't killed him yet for snoring and he was four years in the future. He wondered if Bella was still alive.

[Open like a deck in winter time.]

"Kurt said I could play with his," Claudia said, looking somewhat sheepish. "And Zayne said I could look at his lightsaber if I promised not to take it apart."

"He said it's kind of like a laser sword, but there's nothing on top to keep the laser to a single length so then he said, okay, well, maybe it's more like plasma in a containment field, and he put it together without actually having any idea how it even really works!" Claudia was clearly appalled by that last bit. "I mean, come on. Of course I want to take it apart."

Claudia rolled her eyes. "It's like a kid building a crystal radio. No concept of the forces and mechanics actually involved. . . ." She sighed. "And knowing my luck, the directions would be in, like, Alien or something. Apparently, he's interstellar."

"Would not," said Claudia petulantly. She probably would.

"It'd be a phenomenal scientific discovery." Except one that someone else had already discovered.

"People get really mad when you tell them that magic is something that science hasn't been able to explain yet."

"My big sib mostly pouted at me, and Roy did a little bit of glaring. Tony mostly just seemed amused." Claudia shrugged. "Doesn't make it any less true. Just because the forces they're manipulating haven't been described by physicists yet doesn't make them any less governed by some form of law or order. All science is is observing that force and its manipulation, working out what those laws and orders might be, and then testing the theory."

"Then you wouldn't be able to manipulate it. And it has to be a force, or it wouldn't cause an observable effect. And if it doesn't cause an observable effect? It might as well not exist." Okay, they were starting to approach quantum territory, here. No way was Claudia about to start to try and explain Schroedinger or string theory.

"I grew up in a physics lab." Claudia shrugged. "It kinda rubs off on you after awhile."

[ooc: Niiiiiiight! Thanks for letting her babble at poor Jacob.]
