Fourth Floor Common Room, Friday Evening

Why look, out there in the common room, pretending to be social while watching terrible, somewhat dated slasher films! Was it Jonothon? Why yes, yes it was!

The lights were dimmed, the sound was turned up as loudly as it could go without disrupting everyone else on the floor, and Jono was slumped back against the couch, as comfortable as he ever was, silently mocking anyone who thought that they'd be successful in their attempts to escape that guy with the chainsaw who walked incredibly slowly after them.

All that was missing was the popcorn.

For obvious reasons.

Ino was, well, bored and if she went over her list of questions and information one more time without anything new to add she was going to strangle herself with her hair or something (okay, probably not, but whatever, she was allowed to be over-dramatic in her own thoughts) and so--wandered down the stairs.

"Oh," she said, leaning in the doorway. "That looks charming."

If by charming you meant ridiculous and she did.

//It's bloody ridiculous,// Jono replied, cheerfully craning his neck to see who was standing in the doorway. //Really, that is its charm, gel.//

It only had to make sense if you were Jono, damn it.

"If you say so," she said, a bit dubiously but amused anyway as she wandered in and found herself a chair. "I don't really watch enough movies to say what the charm of most of them would be."

Didi smiled up at her. "I know," she said. "I like how the blood looks like ketchup."

Ino wrinkled her nose cheerfully at that.

"But you really wouldn't want to do that much cooking with this stuff, I don't think," Ino noted. "Ewwww."

Jenny entered the common room, said, "Starsmore," and headed into the kitchen area in search of food she could scrounge and/or steal. She considered her options, then made a sandwich with some deli turkey with someone else's name written on the package. She didn't know who Jill was, and didn't care.

She returned to the main area with her ill-gotten gains and asked Jono, "What're you up to?"

//Sparks.// Jono nodded his greeting, and then shifted almost microscopically to the side. See? He could totally make room for people to sit on the couch. //Mostly just mocking a few of Hollywood's great achievements, gel. There's something therapeutic about laughing at American film.//

Especially when they played that "dun dun dun dun!" music in some sort of attempt to make the audience jump.

Jenny plunked herself down next to him, wondered for about a quarter of a second if eating next to him was rude, then decided either he'd forgive her or he wouldn't and took a big bite of her sandwich. "Oh, God, I love these kinds of movies," she said once she'd chewed and swallowed, because hello, finishing school graduate here. Even if you wouldn't believe it ninety percent of the time. "They're so bloody stupid. It's like natural selection in action."

"Hi," Didi said. "Haven't seen you since Dark Arts class. How was your break?"

"I got tossed out of half the pubs in London," Jenny said proudly. Half the pubkeepers had said some variant on, 'Good to have you back, Miss,' before giving her the boot. Half of the others had said some variant on, 'I thought I told you never to come here again.' It was good to be remembered. "You?"

Makita was hungry, darn it, and didn't want to go into town with her, oh, non-existent money, or hike up to the cafeteria. So she drifted into the common room in search of something to eat.

She waved at Jono slightly on her way in, with a nod to anyone else in the room, before managing to scavenge up an unclaimed box of Pop Tarts and retreated to one of the overstuffed chairs to test out her prize.

"You people have weird food," she complained, making a face after taking a bite. "I'm not sure which is worse; this, or an EMR."

No, she didn't know you were supposed to heat them first. SHHH.

//What yer eating there is one of America's great culinary failures, gel,// Jono noted, somewhat bemused. //Made mildly less disgusting by popping it into a toaster for a minute or two, or so they say. It still looks like th'biscuit that nature rejected, to me.//

Well, looking was about all that he could do. And so he was going to, thank you.

Jenny waved at her roommate and said, "At least the Pop-Tarts have sugar."

She was still a little bitter over the school giving her a roommate again just when she'd gotten the room arranged the way she wanted it, but whatever.

"Those," Didi informed her, "are like eighty percent sugar. Hi."

It was totally an appropriate way to introduce yourself!

"The food's better when it ain't all fake and chemical-ed," Ino replied idly. "Unless it's chocolate. Chocolate is pretty awesome no matter what they do to it."

A beat.

"Hiii, person."

"...I don't even think I know what those are," Hayley said, tilting her head at the Pop Tart.

"Oh, I hate these movies," Didi said cheerfully as she plopped down, well into Jono's personal space. "Hey. Are all the blonde girls dead yet?"

//Most of them,// Jono agreed, pleasantly smooshing over to make room for Didi.

You know. Over toward her. That was the best way of making room for one's girlfriend, and all.

"Hi Didi!" Hayley said, waving enthusiastically. "You look awfully pretty today."

Bobby had eventually run out of comics, and so had headed out with the intention of hanging out in the third floor common room, when what should drift down the stairwell but the sounds of activity further up?

So upstairs he went. And there was Jono, and ridiculous movies.

"Dude, hey," he greeted, and flopped down on an empty couch. "Original, or a sequel, spinoff, or remake?" he nodded at the screen. He didn't watch slasher films often enough to be able to tell them by a glance.

//Original, remastered. Now with two-hundred percent more believable fake-looking blood,// Jono replied, pleasantly. //Like what happens when ketchup and corn syrup collide in a battle to th'death.//

"Hiii," Ino called, with a bit of a wave in his direction. "And how many of these things are there?"

"Don't ask me, I hate these," Didi said, from her spot near Jono. For someone who hated what she was watching, she sounded pretty happy and comfortable. "Hey, Bobby."

"Wow, quite a crowd tonight," Hayley said, grinning as she entered. "Is it somebody's birthday?"
