Fifth Floor Common Room, Saturday Morning

There were smells and sounds coming from the fifth floor common room that would probably tempt most passers-by.
The sizzle and crackle of bacon and eggs, the bready smell of toasted English muffins, and... okay, it'd be really hard to smell or hear the orange juice just passing by.

Jennifer Walters was feeling good that morning. And she just wanted to share that feeling with others. Making breakfast seemed like a good way to do that.

And if the sounds of breakfast didn't bring people in, the fact she was playing Lady Gaga over a radio might help, she thought.

"I have enough for an entire family of starving siblings," Jennifer said. "Please, take some."

"Lucky me," she chirped, wandering over to grab a plate. "Just felt like cookin' or something?"

"Yeah," Jennifer said. "Felt like a Betty Crocker morning. And so far, it's fed two other people, which I call a success."

"Totally a success," she said, snagging some bacon and an English muffin. "Since it saves me the trouble of feeding myself."

Which probably would have meant a granola bar. She could cook but really it was so much of a hassle.

"How's your first week of classes been?"

"Good," Jennifer said. "I'm in exactly the right sort of classes for me, I think. Lots of justice and law. You?"

"Two classes on thinking and stuff. Philosophy and Magical Ethics," she said, "one on Japanese Culture--Algren-sensei made me TA--and Living With Difficult Women."

Poor Centurion. She was going to enjoy that class.

Ino shrugged. "So it'll be an interesting semester, at least?"

"Interesting is good," Jennifer said. "Nothing worse than a semester spent in boring studies, I say."

"No no," she said lightly. "If you're bored in your studies that just means you've got to make them more interesting! Say things to get a reaction and plan things and stuff, you know?"

"Say things to get a reaction?" Jennifer said. "Remind me, what was that last class you were signed up for again?"

[intraspective]

"Living With Difficult Women," she said brightly. "And I'm totally not difficult."

Really. Honest!

Okay, she so was.

"Well, we'll see if you end up as an example in class," Jennifer said, chuckling.

"He might do that," Ino admitted, sighing but amused. "But he's also got to put up with me outside of class, so he might not."

"He does?' Jennifer said, a little confused. "How so?"

"Mm?" Ino blinked over at her, nibbling on a bit of bacon. "Oh! I didn't tell you? He's been training me and I was his TA last semester so we get along pretty good, you know?"

"Brave man," Jennifer said. "But neat. I'm actually taking a class from my boss at the law firm."

"Brave man?" she objected mildly. "What's that supposed to mean?"

She knew, yes, but still. She was totally easy to get along with.

"Boss, boss--the Cabot person?"

"Alex, yeah," Jennifer said. "She's a great woman. I can already tell the class is going to be something special."

"It's on law, yeah?" Ino said, feeling rather unimpressed with that but smiling. "That'd make sense for her--who all is in it and what's it about?"

"And justice," Jennifer said. "We're discussing the differences between different societies and worlds, not just approaching it from the United States model. And there are tons of different people in there, so it'll be good."

"Sounds more like one for you than for me," Ino said, eyes half closed as she took a bite of her muffin. "I bet I wouldn't last long in there."

"Maybe not," Jennifer said. "But it's definitely my sort of thing, you're right." She nodded. "How's the muffin?"

"Muffinish!" she said brightly. It was a compliment! "You doing anything today at all other than this? Not that this is bad, but it might get boring all day."

"Oh, I definitely don't plan on being little miss homemaker all day," Jennifer said. "But as for having actual plans, I don't."

"I've got work," she said, a bit apologetically. "So I can't be much help there--don't suppose you could hang out with a friend?"

"I'll figure something out," Jennifer said. "I hardly ever let myself stay bored."
