After a trip to the grocery store, Roy was ready to actually fend for himself for once, and what better to make on a chilly January day than some nice, spicy comfort food? That was right. Roy was making chili. From Oliver Queen's recipe. One teaspoon cayenne, three tablespoons chili powder, and a healthy dose of Tabasco sauce. God help the unwary.

While it simmered away on the stove, he sat down and grabbed the remote to see what was on TV. This was shaping up to be a good night, really. Chili, TV, and the entertainment value of rookies experiencing chili that tasted like fire for the first time. Yeah, he had no complaints.

And for the record: Yes, he did have functioning taste buds. His sanity...well, that was more questionable.

"You must burn it all so quick, if you yell every time," Hayley said. "What happens when you enter a restaurant?"

"Well, sometimes they ask me to leave for being so disruptive."

Hayley just giggled. "So, you available for a dinner date?" she joked.

"I don't know if there's anywhere on the island I can actually still eat at..." Which so wasn't true, but why give up the joke?

"What a troublemaker," Hayley said, shaking her head. "You know, my mom warned me about boys like you."

"Mine too," he grinned.

"Mainly, I ignore what she said, though," Hayley said. "You got a good sense of humor, though, ya know?"

"It's my good quality," he agreed.

"You say that like it's the only one," Hayley pointed out. "That can't be true, right?"

"Well, I keep trying to tell people I'm a genius, but mostly they laugh at me when I do..."

"Well, there's different kinds of geniuses," Hayley said, pointedly not laughing. "What sort are you?"

"Um... the good kind?"

Okay, that was kind of cute, she had to admit. In the... little brother kind of way. "Awwww. Well, I guess one of us has to be the genius."

"I think I'll live," Hayley remarked. "I've got this far without any genius. Probably just complicate things, any way."
