5th floor common room - Morning

Jacob had woken up to a lot of snow, a powerless dormitory and a growling stomach. The latter two had cause a problem because cornflakes were just cornflakes and Jacob wanted to more. The blizzard hadn't caused much of an obstacle, not when you could change into a werewolf built to brave cold weather. He'd been across the island in a flash and while he'd gotten some strange looks for showing up in just a pair of jeans at J,GOB, the baker hadn't asked any questions. Which was once more evidence of how much the people on the island had gotten used to situations like this and luckily, the bakery had a back up generator. So Jacob had gotten a huge bag full of pastries for 'those poor students'. He suspected that J,GOB hadn't really been expecting a whole lot of customers.

So now, said bag had been upended on the dinner table. The bag itself had been thrown into the bin in Jake's room. It wouldn't do to have anyone take notice of the teeth marks on it. Jacob lay sprawled upon the couch in just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, his hair still a little wet, while he munched on a muffin. In his boredom, he might just end up eating his way through the stack of food.

Best not to let him stay bored.

"Oh, good, people," Didi declared as she wandered up the stairs and into the common room. She was dressed in about fifteen layers of black clothing. "Is there hot chocolate?"

"I haven't tried heating anything over the fire yet," Jacob said. "There's probably milk in the kitchen so cold chocolate's possible."

Didi had to think about that, which went to show she was not the brightest incarnation of an entity all of the time. Especially not when she was cold.

"No electricity. Right," she said. "Somehow cold chocolate isn't as appealing, go figure."

"No, and I was kind of liking the idea of marshmallows and hot chocolate," he had to admit. "Maybe we should try heating something?"

"We could," Didi said, and amiably padded over to the kitchen to poke through the pans. "I have no idea how a saucepan would do in the fire, do you?"

"No, I don't know if they make those things for it," he said, getting up from the couch to... well, probably stand in her way.

"Yeah, believe it or not I've never tried," Didi said. She was still prodding around, and eventually emerged with a stewpot. "... this looks like about the heaviest thing they have."

"I've been camping, but we've got special gear for that," he went to grab the milk from the fridge. Not that the fridge was working, but it was still cold enough.

"Yeah, I've never had to improvise cooking over a fire," Didi agreed. "So -- we learn something new, right?"

"Or burn our fingers trying," he agreed. Not that it'd bother him for long. "Just put the whole carton in? We're with enough people to drink it all."

"Whole box," Didi agreed, and set to work tearing open the little envelopes. "So, little brother, how are you settling in?"

"Not too badly," he said, emptying the milk carton in the pot. "This place at least won't let you get bored." Not with two Bella lookalikes walking around and there were some other nice girls too. Shhhh.

"That's about what I've found," Didi said. "And then there's the random stuff. Like, I had tiny purple frogs at work this week."

She gave the powder-and-milk-mix a good stir or two.

"Kiss kiss," Karla said, nodding Didi's way. She would have said more, but that was all she could fit between bites of pastry.

"Kiss kiss," Didi echoed as her eyes went to the pastry. "Oooh, where did you get that and is it warm?"

... important questions, yes.

Karla pointed to the table and floated one over to Didi. "No," she said, swallowing, "but that's a good idea."

Back home, warming spells were often added to plates in order to keep the food warm, but Karla hadn't actually thought of applying the spell directly to the food itself.

Eying the last half of her pastry, Karla cast the spell. And then dropped the remains into her lap. "Ow! Ow! Hot!"

Didi really shouldn't laugh, but ...

Too late. She did.

"You need to calibrate your firepower."

Yeah, that particular phrasing wasn't great, not after the bitchfight she'd gotten into with Azula. Karla glared at the offending pastry. "That explains why we put the spells onto the plates and not the food," she muttered.

"Nope, the pastries are cold," she said, glancing back at Didi. "Or almost molten. Lady's choice?"

"Cold," Didi selected. "I'll toast it a little over the fire. And thank you."

"You're welcome," Karla said, still shaking her hand a bit. "How're you doing, Didi? Besides freezing today?"

"I think freezing today about covers it," Didi said lightly. "If it stops snowing, I'll go out and make a snow fort or something. What about you, Karla?"

"Also freezing," she answered, making a face. "Drag me out with you when you go. Back home, we would have been buried under snow and ice for a few weeks now. I must be losing my edge to be this cold."

Right. Because her home wouldn't have been heated with Craft for the entire winter.

"I think it's harder without power," Didi said, almost absently, then reconsidered. "Unless you grew up without it. I'm used to adjusting, you know?"

"I've never grown up with power that could go out," Karla said, shrugging. "It would almost be an adventure if it wasn't so damned cold."

"It is an adventure," Didi insisted. "A very cold adventure."

She was wondering if Jono could heat the dorms.
