5th floor common room - Morning

Jacob had woken up to a lot of snow, a powerless dormitory and a growling stomach. The latter two had cause a problem because cornflakes were just cornflakes and Jacob wanted to more. The blizzard hadn't caused much of an obstacle, not when you could change into a werewolf built to brave cold weather. He'd been across the island in a flash and while he'd gotten some strange looks for showing up in just a pair of jeans at J,GOB, the baker hadn't asked any questions. Which was once more evidence of how much the people on the island had gotten used to situations like this and luckily, the bakery had a back up generator. So Jacob had gotten a huge bag full of pastries for 'those poor students'. He suspected that J,GOB hadn't really been expecting a whole lot of customers.

So now, said bag had been upended on the dinner table. The bag itself had been thrown into the bin in Jake's room. It wouldn't do to have anyone take notice of the teeth marks on it. Jacob lay sprawled upon the couch in just a pair of jeans and a t-shirt, his hair still a little wet, while he munched on a muffin. In his boredom, he might just end up eating his way through the stack of food.

Best not to let him stay bored.

"You did but that wasn't done with me solely in mind, was it?" asked Bod. He was certain Jacob hadn't woken with the thought of getting him breakfast. "So using that excuse seems flawed."

Technically, he hadn't since it was the baker that'd had given him all the food. Not that it mattered.

"So you can only be grateful for something done only for you?" Jake asked.

"I didn't say that. I was just pointing out the flaw in your reasoning," said Bod, half smiling. "I couldn't help myself."

"My reasoning is working pretty well to serve me," Jacob said. "So thanks, but you didn't have to."

"I'm still not dancing but I do thank you for the breakfast," Bod allowed, ducking his head and snickering quietly. "These donuts would have to be the best I'd ever tasted to get me to dance."

"How about some circus tricks then?" Jacob tried. "Try to walk the ceiling or something."

"Unfortunately, since leaving home, I can't do anything that most people would classify as magic," he said, perhaps a little somberly. "I lost the ability."

That got him to pause.

"Are you serious?"

"I am." Bod nodded. "I used to be able to do several things but I think it was connected to the graveyard."

Jacob was just going to stare now and wonder why he hadn't know this about his roommate. "What? Graveyard?"

"Did I not tell you that?" wondered Bod, actually surprised. "Sorry. I thought I had. I grew up in a graveyard. That's where I was before coming here."

"You didn't. You got all evasive when I asked where you're from," Jacob reminded Bod. Now he understood why. "Your dad's an undertaker or something?"

"My dad's a ghost." Well, one of his fathers was. He didn't actually know what his real father did. He'd been too young to know. "So is my mother."

Jacob blinked and that got him to sit up to study Bod better. "You don't look transparent to me."

"That's because I'm not a ghost," said Bod, grinning at Jacob's reaction. "My parents were, I'm not. Is that normally how it works?"

Bod didn't actually know, for the most part. He knew his situation was unique but a lot of people had different experiences and possibly different knowledge.

"I'm going to go with no," Jacob said. "I'm pretty sure my dad's not a ghost." Ghosts probably didn't have wheel chairs, it'd be cruel if they did.

"Ah. Well, I can assure you I'm alive. You can poke me if you've doubts," Bod suggested, holding out an arm. "Besides Silas, I was the only one who was alive there."

"Silas?" Jacob asked and well, Bod had offered so Jacob leaned forward to poke Bod's arm. "Okay, feels solid enough."

"My guardian," he provided. "He was alive too." Sort of. Oh, if Jacob only knew what Silas actually was. "He acted as a caretaker of the graveyard before I arrived."

"Somebody sent you there?" Jacob asked. It seemed like a very weird place to send a kid. Or you know, anyone who was actually alive.

"No, I came here on my own," he clarified. "Silas has no knowledge of where I am. He's off, doing his duty, I assume."

"I meant to the graveyard," Jacob said, he'd thought that'd been clear.

"Oh, sorry." Bod shook his head and the mun failed for misreading that. "No, I went there myself."

The circumstances, though, those were what made his trip to the graveyard as a mere toddler unique.

"I suppose you could say someone's actions sent me there but I got there on my own."

"I don't think that'd be the first place I go to," Jacob replied. "Is there a house or something?"

"In the graveyard?" Bod shook his head. "There are crypts and mausoleums but nothing like an actual house. I had the Freedom of the Graveyard so I was able to go places where no other living person could."
