Sixth Floor, Thursday Evening -- Merlin's Birthday Party

If Arthur had still been back at Camelot, the idea of holding celebrations for a servant's birthday would have seemed preposterous. But he wasn't, and it didn't, and if he were really honest with himself he'd admit he enjoyed it (or at least in as much as it involved picking out presents that made him fret some on the inside and yelling at people about getting decorations in).

The Sixth Floor was decorated rather decadently for a birthday party. There were some CDs of painfully carefully selected songs playing through the system - the ones Arthur had judged least likely to shatter eardrums (and maybe tending towards the classical and medieval).

And there was food. Courtesy of Francine.

Arthur didn't like half-measures much.

"I like the sushi," Tara repeated. "I ... haven't tried the cake yet."

"It's... pretty much a big meatloaf frosted with mashed potatoes," Francine admitted. "With diced peppers between the layers. There's nothing scary in it."

Now that shed been reassured about the lack of scariness.

"I didn't come up with it myself," Francine was quick to admit. "There's a whole website of them."

Oh. But you found the website," Tara said, clearly trying to make Francine feel better. "And, and you cooked it. That's -- that's something, right?"

Francine shrugged. "I'm okay with that. I'm never gonna be a chef or anything. I just like feeding people."

She glanced toward the cake. "How have you been otherwise? No more bunny, huh?"

Most of Francine's smiles were dorky. Could anybody really tell when one was dorkier than usual? "No more bunny."

"I saw," Tara said, nodding to Katchoo across the room with a lopsided grin of her own. "It's -- really, really great, isn't it?"

Tara didn't exactly have a wicked smile, but this one was trending in that direction. "And it's probably more fun when she snuggles back."

"Bible study." Yes. Probably going to hell. Or maybe not. At this point Francine was so unsure on that subject, she might as well joke about it.
