Sixth Floor, Thursday Evening -- Merlin's Birthday Party

If Arthur had still been back at Camelot, the idea of holding celebrations for a servant's birthday would have seemed preposterous. But he wasn't, and it didn't, and if he were really honest with himself he'd admit he enjoyed it (or at least in as much as it involved picking out presents that made him fret some on the inside and yelling at people about getting decorations in).

The Sixth Floor was decorated rather decadently for a birthday party. There were some CDs of painfully carefully selected songs playing through the system - the ones Arthur had judged least likely to shatter eardrums (and maybe tending towards the classical and medieval).

And there was food. Courtesy of Francine.

Arthur didn't like half-measures much.

Mat--even though he had no way of receiving email--had a sixth sense when it came to finding fun.

He arrived in his standard breeches, white shirt, ridiculously embroidered silk coat and black scarf and glanced around for faces he recognized.

Jack was a little late because of rehearsal, but he doubted anyone would notice or care. He was happy to have a birthday to celebrate; it felt like a good week for a party.

With Merlin being his little sibling, Hannibal knew he couldn't miss this one. Not that he wanted to, of course. He wandered upstairs sometime that evening to find the party.

Even had she possessed a computer, Firekeeper couldn't actually read email.

Thankfully, a little bird had told her of the party. Yes, literally. It had been an actual small bird. Apparently squirrels weren't the only island creatures prone to gossip.

Blind Seer was even making one of his rare exceptions to his 'no parties' rule. It was Merlin, of course he was there.

Tara shut down the shop a little early so she could make it to the party. It was Merlin. She'd put up with a crowd for that.

... and besides, Kennedy had said she'd try to come.

Dinah was definitely there-- Merlin's birthday, come on! She grinned when got in and complimented Arthur, "Nice job. And when's your birthday?" And could they get a singing telegram for it?

Please, like Karla was going to miss Merlin's birthday celebrations, even if there was a cowardly part of her that quailed at having to see Arthur. Besides, he'd promised they'd never speak of it again and there was no way that she was going to hide from any male.

And deliberately skipping Merlin's party would be like kicking a puppy.

Katchoo would have been here whether or not Arthur had tried to order her to show up. Clocky was trailing at her heels, and she was ignoring it.

And yes, she still looked astoundingly not ragey. Still.

She'd told Tara she'd try to make it, and like she'd said, a party was a party, so presence of Arthur notwithstanding, Kennedy did show up.

The music was pretty boring by her standards, but... well, medieval, she guessed. Still, as someone else who didn't do half-measures, she had to grudgingly approve of the rest of the setup.

You know, in the five gabillionth to one chance that she hadn't been responsible for the food.

Since she was (both here and responsible for the food) she could be found nibbling on some sticky mango sushi. Nom.

Robin might not know Merlin as well as some people, but he wasn't passing up the opportunity to go to a party.

Helen still wasn't entirely certain about parties these days, but Merlin had gone out of his way to be kind to her and he did make her smile, so she was here to help celebrate his birthday.

This party might have been unusual, but Morgana wouldn't miss it for the world. She'd even put on a dress that fully covered herself, for Arthur's sake. He couldn't say she never did anything nice now.

Okay, so Roy had only met Merlin the once. But he could still wish the birthday boy well and hopefully score some cake, right? Besides, a party was a party. The more the merrier.

Hurley showed up, happy to be there. He waved at pretty much everyone, a happy smile on his face. Parties meant distraction. Distraction was awesome.

Bruce was half-tempted to take advantage of the party by going out to the roof and getting some alone time. However, it was probably for the best that he attended the party. Especially since, really, how could he possibly pass up a party by and for legendary figures.

So he was here and looked like he was ready to have a good time.

Mat, given what he knew about Arthur, decided that Merlin was probably also severely fun deprived. Thus his gift was a pack of lacquered playing cards and two sets of dice, with an invitation to teach Merlin how to play at his leisure.

Mat was such a good influence on people.
