Sixth Floor, Thursday Evening -- Merlin's Birthday Party

If Arthur had still been back at Camelot, the idea of holding celebrations for a servant's birthday would have seemed preposterous. But he wasn't, and it didn't, and if he were really honest with himself he'd admit he enjoyed it (or at least in as much as it involved picking out presents that made him fret some on the inside and yelling at people about getting decorations in).

The Sixth Floor was decorated rather decadently for a birthday party. There were some CDs of painfully carefully selected songs playing through the system - the ones Arthur had judged least likely to shatter eardrums (and maybe tending towards the classical and medieval).

And there was food. Courtesy of Francine.

Arthur didn't like half-measures much.

"Three," Tara agreed.

"One, two ..." and then she threw herself into the balls in as ladylike a manner as she could manage.

"Three!" Merlin finished, jumping with her and... finding himself under a pile of balls.

...yes.

"This is--" Okay, so standing wasn't so easy when you couldn't find the bottom without a bit of effort. "--whoa."

"You have to move with them," Tara advised wisely. "Like -- roll so you can sit up."

She attempted to demonstrate and promptly lost her balance. She giggled as the balls tried to bury her again.

"I can see you do so well with it," Merlin replied, flailing about in the pit of dooooom.

"Hush," Tara rebuked as she tried and failed to get to her knees. "It's not like I'm some ... professional ballpit jumper."

Was that a job?

Merlin shot her a look before rolling vaguely toward the edge of the pit. "People do this for a job?"

"Probably not," Tara said, tossing balls idly into the air. "It would be a cool job, though."

"Easy too!" Merlin replied, tossing a few of the balls in her direction.

One of the balls smacked Tara in the forehead and she scooped it up to bat it back at him.
