Sixth Floor, Thursday Evening -- Merlin's Birthday Party

If Arthur had still been back at Camelot, the idea of holding celebrations for a servant's birthday would have seemed preposterous. But he wasn't, and it didn't, and if he were really honest with himself he'd admit he enjoyed it (or at least in as much as it involved picking out presents that made him fret some on the inside and yelling at people about getting decorations in).

The Sixth Floor was decorated rather decadently for a birthday party. There were some CDs of painfully carefully selected songs playing through the system - the ones Arthur had judged least likely to shatter eardrums (and maybe tending towards the classical and medieval).

And there was food. Courtesy of Francine.

Arthur didn't like half-measures much.

As anyone who'd ever met Arthur knew.

"The cake is the best part," He informed her. "I'm surprised more people aren't excited about it."

"Well, they're not used to seeing their meat in a cake," she pointed out. "Or their cake with meat in it. Whichever."

"But it's the best of both worlds!" Like Hannah Montana, Francine!

It's a cake in a tacky blonde wig?

"Not everyone is as progressive and open-minded as we are."

Hell yeah. Hell yeah.

"And Firekeeper. She seemed excited about it as well."

Francine thought about that, then her eyes lit up. "Ooh, Blind Seer can eat it too."

"So we'll need to see about getting her a naming day so you can make another!" Yes, it was all for the wolves. Really.

"Getting her one?"

"Well, she doesn't know when hers is," Merlin replied slowly.

Nonsense. Obviously her dying parents filed a birth certificate with the wolves!

...Or not. "Huh. I guess she wouldn't. " Francine frowned, not in full-on mom mode but heading that way. You'd think the Kestral people would have given her a party at some point. "Well, that won't do!"

"Exactly," Merlin said, nodding in less mom mode, but still as enthusiastically. "We'll need to figure one out."

"We might want to ask her," Francine said with a smile. "Like, for some other day that's important to her? Or just a time of year she likes."

"And then surprise her on it?"

Well. There wasn't the same falling-into-the-cake danger as there would be with Merlin. Or, you know. Francine.

"Wheeee, yes!"
