Third Floor Common Room - Thursday Evening

Claire had hot cocoa and cookies and was curled up on the sofa watching the Olympics. She did not understand why anyone would possibly want to spend that much time in or around snow or ice, but she could appreciate the athleticism involved.

Plus the figure skaters were such pretty boys.

Jon had gone looking for food, but it had to be food that he didn't have to cook himself. Which was why he ended up on the third floor, which had cookies, apparently. And cookies totally counted as food.

Plus, Olympics.

"Hey, I forgot this was going on. Are they showing any hockey?"

"Not tonight," Claire said. "It's snowboarding and skiing and figure skating."

"Oh." Jon dropped onto the couch, looking disappointed, and stole a cookie. "Females?"

Because that was important.

"Sorry, it's the men's freeskate tonight," she said. "Want some cocoa?"

Jon settled in to watch, because at least it was on ice. "Yes, please."

Claire leaned over and kissed his cheek before heading out to put the kettle back on.

"Are you excited about our trip next week?"

Jon had to think about that for a moment and then grinned. "Oh, yeah, spring break. Yeah, I'm excited. Me, you, beach, tiny bikini..."

"...Is this stuff not over yet?" Hayley asked, wandering into the common room with a bag of cheddar and sour cream potato chips.

If she wasn't careful, she was going to start getting pudgy from all the junk food she was eating.

"It's on for another week," Claire said. "The Olympics are like two and a half weeks long."

"...Thank goodness we got that trip next week. I don't know if I can take much more of this. I mean, this stuff is great. But some of those other sports just... make me wish real TV shows were on," Hayley said, munching her chips.

"I like the summer olympics better," Claire admitted. "The whole snow and ice thing doesn't really do much for me."

"Me either," Hayley said, setting down the bag of chips and curling up her legs. "I got enough of the cold around Gotham. When I graduate, I'm gonna find somewhere that's always warm."

"I grew up in Texas," Claire said. "And my family is in Southern California now. So, yeah, definitely like the warmer climates better."

"Oh my god, did I miss Johnny Weir?" asked Harper, frantically running into the common room with sketchbook in hand.

"Not yet," Claire assured her, glancing at the sketch pad. "Are you planning to get some design ideas from the costumes?"

From what she had seen of Harper's wardrobe, it wouldn't surprise her.

"I like trying to recreate some of his ensembles," said Harper, flipping through several pages before finding one of Johnny's short program costume. "He is such a style icon."

Claire wasn't sure she would call him that, but she nodded. "That's cool. Maybe some day you can design something for him."

"Vera Wang designs skating costumes, so if she can do it, so can I," said Harper, sounding very confident.

"That sounds like something awesome to aspire too," Claire agreed. Of course, she somehow doubted that Harper's style was going to become anywhere near as popular as Vera Wang's.

Then again, the 80s happened, so who knew.

Ellie didn't mind that she had to go two floors below hers to find people to watch the Olympics with. "Did the skating start, yet?"

"I think it's just about to," Claire said. "I've got cookies and hot cocoa."

"Cookies, hot cocoa, and men's figure skating," Ellie grinned. "This might be close to a perfect night."

Claire laughed. "Yeah, if only it wasn't so cold and miserable outside."

"I know what you mean," Ellie nodded. "It just goes against my entire California upbringing."

"See, you get it!" Claire said, happy to find a like-minded individual. "Why people want to be around snow and ice is beyond me."
