The Roof, Saturday Morning

It was kind of cloudy out. It was still somewhat chilly out. It was entirely too early in the morning, and Warren wasn't sure why the heck he was even awake yet, but here he was.

He'd made his way up to the roof to give his wings a stretch, because those dorm rooms were way too puny for anyone with a wingspan like his, and he stayed up there, contemplating getting his nagging urge to fly out of his system before he'd find himself crammed into a coat and harness all over again for a week in the Bahamas.

... Of course, it still seemed like a fair trade-off. Flying for the Bahamas. He'd spent a lot of his life not flying. He could handle a week, for the sake of the sunshine. Right? Right. Of course, right.

"Of course, it had to be addictive," he mumbled, giving his head a little shake, and then jumping. A few laps around, and he'd be good, he figured. Just enough to get the feel for the wind through his feathers. It was too cold to keep going for too long, after all. But maybe once he landed, he'd be able to warm up for a bit and then go about doing it all over again.

He was getting better at taking off. He didn't look quite so much like somebody had tossed an unsuspecting chicken from the roof as he used to.

[Open roof is open! Warren will be playing his game of 'fly, land, thaw, repeat' for most of the morning.]

"Hey, Kurt," Kate greeted him back with a smile. "Long time indeed." And she felt a touch of guilt over that. There'd been too much drama going on. "How've you been?"

Kurt felt guilty, too, for not having more questions to ask her. It could be a whole sibling guiltfest!

"I'm settling in okay," he told her. "I mean, where I'm from isn't exactly NORMAL, so it's not so bad to get used to."

"Well, that's good to hear," she nodded. "...Oh, by the way, did you get through the gremlin thing okay?"

Kurt nodded, and looked a little like he might be sick. "Ja. I... dealt with them."

Kate looked concerned. Oh look, big sister instincts kicking in! "Those kinds of things don't happen often, you know. Thankfully."

Kurt waved her off. "I... killed some of them," he told her. "A few. Not many." It had been a slimy green carnage on the rocky bits. "I'm just not used to that, is all."

"I'm not either. I'm really, really not used to any of that," she said, watching him. Then she shrugged. "At least you did something. I don't think I killed any of them, although I put up a fight."

"No one's keeping SCORE," Kurt reassured her. "I just wish they didn't look so much like freaky little people, you know?"

Bad topic! Time to stop thinking about it!

"Class are really awesome, though!" he told her. "I never thought I'd ENJOY school!"

"At least there's only a little bit of it, here," Kate replied, amused and grateful for the new topic. "Which classes are you taking?"

"Phys ed," Kurt grumbled. "With the CRAZY MAN. But also the law one, and the 'people suck' class, and the one about battles. Some of the teachers are AWESOME."

"Some of them are, yeah," Kate had to agree. Some of them got her coffee, come on.

Okay, only one of them did. But anyway.

"Which crazy man? There are many to choose from."

"Not CRAZY crazy," Kurt clarified. Because this was Fandom, after all. "Just normal phys ed teacher crazy. Get up early in the morning and go for a long run in the freezing cold, that sort of thing. Mr. Bond."
