Tanned and rested from a vacation--where no evil mutants or natural disasters struck--Jean was going to settle in for whatever she could find on TV tonight.

It ended up being something about kids living and loving in New Jersey.

Something was terribly, terribly wrong here.

"Really?" Jean asked, curious now. "Like running and all that?"

"Yeah," Bruce said. "Maybe even go a little farther with it, too. Would you be interested in any help with fight training?"

"Like hand to hand?" That was really not her thing. As evident by the constantly being smacked down. "Because I've mostly trained to fight with the--" She twirled a finger to signify telekinesis.

"It never hurts to diversify a little. Maybe I could show you how to defend yourself better hand-to-hand and you could show me how to defend myself from twirly fingers," Bruce said. "If you're not interested, I'd be fine with keeping it to running."

And maybe defense from telepathy.

"That'd be great! Mr. Summers has been teaching me new ways to use it," Jean gushed. "And I don't get to practice with another person most of the time."

"Great! Could we start on Friday?" Bruce asked.

"Perfect! Want to work in the gym or was there somewhere else you had in mind?"

Like a romantic stroll on the icy beach?

"Maybe on the beach or in the woods. Somewhere we can have a little more privacy," Bruce said.

"And I could teach you how to put up shields too," Jean said. Because, in this town, it seemed to be necessary. "If you wanted. It's mostly a lot of meditation which can be boring for most people."

"No, that would be a great help," Bruce said. "And if you knew how much time I've put into meditation over the past couple years, I think you might be impressed."

"Then it'll be a lot easier to learn," Jean replied. "It'll mostly just be learning to tell when someone is trying to get into your mind and then we'll move onto keeping them out."

"Do you promise not to dig around when we're practicing?" Bruce asked. Although it was less a question and more a suggestion. He was fond enough of Jean to try to keep her from having to see anything in his mind.

Jean shot him a look. "I won't go anywhere unless I'm invited, Bruce. If we're in your mind, just remember that you're the one in control of what is shown."

"I'll keep that in mind," Bruce said.

Yes, it was a joke. "And I really do appreciate it."

"I was already helping Jono and Bobby before. Plus, it's good practice for when I try teaching back home."

"Well, I'm glad I could help by being a test student," Bruce said, showing a smile.
