3rd Floor Common Room, Friday Morning

There was a window of time between waking up, early morning training, school, more training, frat, and radio in the evenings. Sure, it was a relatively small window of time, but Arthur didn't see why he shouldn't make use of it by doing something useful.

Like reading more ancient French science fiction - something by Louis Boussenard, to be exact. Something about ice this time. It was fairly thrilling.

Uncharacteristically, though, he had grown tired enough of the silence in his room to take it outside into the common room. God forbid what disturbances that might drag up, but at least he wouldn't have to deal with the... ceiling.

Yes.

Whatever, he could do as he liked.

Kate sauntered in, yawning, halfway dressed for the day as she often was when she wandered the dorms in search of breakfast. The jeans would've been fit for the outside world; the somewhat tattered and distinctly oversized t-shirt advertising Four Winds Landscaping, not so much.

She gave Arthur a lazy wave, heading for the kitchen area. "Morning, Arthur."

Arthur lowered his book a fraction of an inch. "Morning, Kate," he greeted, with idle amusement. "Let me guess, you're scrounging about for food."

"What tipped you off?" she asked, giving him a faint smirk before rummaging around the cupboards for a bowl. "Was it the fact that it's morning, and people generally have breakfast then?"

"I've already had it," Arthur said. Of course, that was mostly because he had people to do that sort of thing.

People. Person. Sometimes there were delivery people. Okay, look, the specifics didn't much matter. "Still, I'm sure there's an old muffin or something loitering around the cupboards."

"Hello, Kate," Jonas greeted, recognizing someone else in the common room. "You look...slightly sleepy."

"Hi Jonas," Kate said, smiling, if in a slightly sleepy way, yes. "That's because I haven't really woken up yet."

"And yet, you're out of bed and upright," he pointed out. "That's to be commended."

"We meet again," Jack said from near the coffee pot. "How are you this morning, Kate?"

"Sleepy," Kate replied with a lopsided smile. "But I expect that to change in the near future."

"What? No free food?" Gunn said in a friendly way as he entered the room. "How am I supposed to freeload off people if there's no food?"

"By dogging someone who isn't me into making some?" Arthur asked, looking up. "Morning, Charles."

"What's up, Artie?" Gunn grinned as he flopped on the couch and reached for the remote. "Getting your study groove on?"

"There's plenty of food if you look in the right places," Jack said. He was still fiddling with the coffeepot. "Hello. Meet anyone better than me since speed dating?"

... look, it was a month ago, but it was the only time he'd talked to Gunn.

"I don't know," Gunn joked. "Does that wacky weekend where everyone was somebody else count?"

With nothing else to fill the time, Jonas found himself wandering down the hall to the common room to see if there was anything there that could serve that purpose.

Finding people there was a good start. Jonas slipped in quietly, throwing out a wave before saying, "Good morning. It's quiet so far."

"It was quiet earlier," Arthur said, sweeping a look around the premises and the people now bustling about, "I'd dare say we're heading away from it now."

"People seem to be waking up earlier and earlier," he said, contemplating getting some juice before deciding to do it later and finding an empty seat to wake up some more. "Perhaps in preparation for a busy weekend?"

"Morning," Jack greeted. "I think the weekend lull started early."

... though it wasn't really quiet right where they were.

"Hello, good morning," Jonas returned, nodding at Jack. "I didn't think it would be this busy so early on a Friday. I thought people would be taking advantage and sleeping late."

It was a day off, so Jack almost managed to sleep in.

Eventually, though, he awoke enough to pad into the kitchen and peer grumpily at the coffee pot. The free-of-delicious-caffeinated-beverages coffee pot.

"Why is this thing always empty when I get here?" he asked the room as a whole as he went to get the filter and beans.

"Because you come here right after the doors have opened and sent a whole deluge of Fandomites scurrying down to feed their addictions?" Arthur volunteered, leisurely, from his seat on the couch.

What? It was what happened whenever he sat down in here. He had no reason to believe it was ever any different.

"That makes it sound like there's a rampaging horde around the coffeepot," Jack said, squinting at the thing -- and possibly checking for said horde -- as he dumped in the beans. "How have you been, Arthur?"

Chuck was just in the common room for coffee and he could have easily just done this and left without acknowledging Arthur but where was the fun in that? So he sat down in an armchair after he got his coffee and attempted to make polite conversation.

"Do you understand French or are there just a lot of pictures in that book?"

See that was...sort of polite.

"I was taught French when I was younger," Arthur replied. In his own right, he was being unfailingly polite. "Developing an interest in literature, Chuck?"

"I've always had an interest in literature. I just don't like to flaunt it," Chuck said. "Though when it comes to French lit I've always preferred the Marquis de Sade."

This surprised absolutely no one.
