3rd Floor Common Room, Friday Morning

There was a window of time between waking up, early morning training, school, more training, frat, and radio in the evenings. Sure, it was a relatively small window of time, but Arthur didn't see why he shouldn't make use of it by doing something useful.

Like reading more ancient French science fiction - something by Louis Boussenard, to be exact. Something about ice this time. It was fairly thrilling.

Uncharacteristically, though, he had grown tired enough of the silence in his room to take it outside into the common room. God forbid what disturbances that might drag up, but at least he wouldn't have to deal with the... ceiling.

Yes.

Whatever, he could do as he liked.

"Yeah well, I got hungry," she replied, poking at the cereal in her bowl with her spoon. "Kind of a powerful incentive to get out of bed."

"And there was nothing in your room?" he guessed. "I just hand candy. I didn't know how good that would be for breakfast."

"Candy is good for breakfast," Kate assured him. Because she would think that way. "But I didn't even have that. My stash is woefully empty."

"Isn't that unhealthy?" he asked, genuinely curious. He was woefully uncertain on these things.

She chuckled lightly. "Yeah, it's unhealthy. I just tend to ignore stuff like that."

"Do you have a particular favorite unhealthy candy for breakfast?" he wondered, curious.

"Not really. I'll go with whatever I happen to have at the moment," she mused. "But I think you can never go wrong with Twizzlers."

"And that never causes a stomachache?" Jonas wondered. "I'd been told that it would."

"I wouldn't say never," Kate said, because saying it never happened would've been a lie, "but I've had a lot of practice. My stomach is pretty awesome."

"Stomachs can be awesome?" Jonas asked, actually curious about that. He needed to stop taking things so literally.

Kate tilted her head, and considered her answer. "... Not literally," she said then. "Or, I don't know. I call things awesome a lot. It's a habit."

"I apologize," Jonas said and blushed, ducking his head to hide that. "I'm -- the slang is still confusing for me. And asking about it only confuses everyone."

"Pfft, no it doesn't, and there's no need to apologize," Kate said, waving that away. "If you don't ask you'll never know, right? Anyway, I get harder questions all the time."

"Well." Since she'd offered and all, he couldn't help but ask, "What exactly makes a person awesome, then?"

"I don't think there's really anything exact about it," Kate mused. "It's more this general feeling of just being extremely cool and great and stuff."

"So, if anyone felt like that, anyone could be awesome?" he guessed.

"Pretty much, although I think outside approval might be required. People might not believe you if you just tell them you're awesome."

Which didn't stop her from constantly doing just that.

"Someone could lie about having that outside approval, couldn't they?" Jonas pointed out.

"Mm, not really. I think awesome is such a subjective concept that the outside approval almost has to come from whoever you're trying to convince of your awesomeness."
