Third Floor Common Room [Brunch Time]
Joan hadn't been terribly surprised to be woken up by a child this morning. She was kind of glad it was a child she recognized, even though she was mildly disappointed that she didn't seem to have a future child with her boyfriend.
Then again, she was grateful it wasn't the kid with the wings to give her tiny heart attacks all weekend.
Jared was starving so she led him down to the common room and started making pancakes, figuring there might be other folks in a similar situation.

Kate was looking a little thoughtful, but smiled reassuringly when the girl glanced at her.

"He asked who she was," Kate interjected.
"Mommy! He said I wasn't as cool as a samurai!"

Kate rolled her eyes. "Please don't say that in front of Dani, though. I don't think he'll ever shut up if you do."

"He's not," Vivienne piped up again. "I would know."

"There are alternative realities," he told Vivienne. "So how are you managing?" he added to Kate.

"Alternative realities?" Vivienne asked. Her mother – the one at home – had talked about those sometimes, but she'd deemed the girl too young to really be able to grasp the concept. And there were always more pressing weird things to deal with.
Kate went for another reassuring smile. "You're... kinda in one, right now."

"Yes," Leto said. "That's why we have to ask you strange questions."

"Okay," she said. "The portal brought me to another universe? And you aren't my parents?"
Meanwhile, Kate raked a hand back through her hair, shooting Leto a smile of the 'really, I don't need to be reassured (although I do and I know you know)' variety. It was a complicated smile, but then they also knew each other pretty well.
Vivienne observed her mom, or not-mon, and noted, "Or you are, but not the ones I have at home."

"And when do I go home?" the girl asked.
Kate shrugged. "Um, tomorrow, probably?"
