Third floor common room- Tuesday night

So Jaina had said goodbye to two people already and so tonight there needed to be distraction. She might have been overdoing it a bit.

There was pizza for sharing, and a datapad in front of her that she was more or less ignoring for Space Battles on the TV. So sue her, she liked the movie. It was space and things blew up and she found the characters really easy to relate to for some reason.

[Yes I had to. Again. Come in, have some pizza, watch a classic!]

Alex had spent much of the day wandering the dorms and not wanting to sit in her room (too quiet now that her roommate was gone for the summer), decided to wander into the common room.

"Ooh, Space Battles." There was a hi in there somewhere.

"Apparently it's a rule somewhere that one of the movies must be on television at all times," she said. "There's pizza, if you want."

"Whoever decided that is either a genius or possibly, a tiny bit crazy," Alex replied. "Then again, there's a good chance there's always someone out there to watch it."

It made sense to her.

"Pizza? I think you just made my night."

"Glad to help," Jaina said with a little smile. At least she wasn't dwelling on everyone leaving too much this time. "I wonder what people do when two movies are on at once."

Alex stopped to think about that, a slice of pizza halfway onto her plate. "Rock, paper, scissors?"

"Against yourself?" What, she found the mental image fun.

"Don't knock it until you've tried it." Somehow Alex managed to say that with a straight face. Don't ask her how. "I bet there's people out there who would totally do that."

And that image had Alex laughing just a little.

"I'm pretty sure I know several," she realized.

She paused. "Maybe more than several." Scary thought.

Alex raised an eyebrow. "I can only think of one at the moment."

That would be her younger brother Max. He was special, that one. "No one from here comes to mind. Maybe I haven't met them yet." That last part was more or less a joke.

"Now that you've said that, you're going to meet five when the new kids show," Jaina warned, going for another slice of pizza.

"Maybe I'll learn not to say things like that one day," Alex frowned, shaking her head. "Though, it could be fun watching the new kids confuse themselves."

Her, mess with newbies? Never!

"That'll happen anyway. Usually right around the time you try to be honest with them about what goes on here and they convince themselves you're pranking them." How many newbie days had she been through now?

"Good point. It's worth it to see the looks on their faces when they experience their first bought of Fandom weirdness." The new kids were special like that.

"I do feel bad for them, because I remember when I was new," she admitted. That, by the way, was forever ago. "But at the same time I wish everyone would listen so maybe they get off a little easier."

Kids these days.

"Yeah, part of me does too," Alex nodded. Hey, she was new at one time or another. Hopefully not as naive but really, who was she kidding?

"There's a good chunk of us that couldn't make up this stuff if we tried." Yes, she was including herself in that group.

"I wonder if they put that kind of stuff in the brochure," she said, seriously wondering. "I knew what I was getting into when I showed, kind of, but my information sources are better than most."

"I'm going with a no on that one," Alex guessed. "Only because I had no clue what this place was really like. You lucked out with the sources."

"And how long have you been here now?" Jaina wondered.

"Over two years now," Alex answered. Damn, time flew.

"So you're a real vet now," she said. "Nothing probably fazes you now, huh?"

"I guess so," she nodded. "Why do I get the feeling if I say that, Fandom will come up with something that actually does?"

Because that's totally happened before.

"Because I jinxed myself for two things in the past three months," she said matter-of-factly. "I think the island has ears."

"Ooh, sorry?" Alex didn't know what they were but jinxing oneself in general just plain sucked. "Not just the squirrels, then?"

Awesome.

"No, I think the squirrels just gossip-monger," she said, pretty sure about this.

[*kicks Gmail*]

"I need to remember to bribe them with rum more often," Alex stated. "You know, for the future."
