Peter Bishop was not a fan of having his worldview rocked. He typically considered himself a very smart and rational human being.

Seemingly being dumped fifteen some years in the future was not a concept that gelled well with rational and scientific thought. It honestly made him feel like he was going crazy, no matter how much his conversation with Jacob had reassured him.

So Peter slunk into the couch, unable to concentrate enough to read. Instead, he flipped on the TV and proceeded to be horrified by the program that was on. Who thought it would be a good idea to film crazy new Jerseyians and put them on TV?

"Popcorn," Peter said, snapping his fingers. "That's what we need."

He looked over at Emma, and after a quick mental 'well hello there', he smiled and said. "I don't suppose you know where a guy can find some around here?"

"Hello to you too, usually in the top cupboard, and I'm probably going to burn at least half of it if we let me make it," Emma rattled off, already going to try and reach it down. "Fair warning."

Even with the earlier encounter with Sookie's power, Peter just took her reaction as scoffing at the fact he hadn't actually properly greeted her. He got up off the couch and walked over. "I may be from the ancient past," he joked. "But I think I can work a microwave."

He was already deciding that it was better to keep his sanity than to lose his mind denying everything.

"Emma Frost, darling," she said, offering her hand. "You don't look that far beyond an expiration date; how far in the 'ancient past?' I'm from 1999, or was, when I started here. It's 2000 there now."

"Still more recent than me," he said. "I hail from the wilds of 1995. A pretty ugly time, if you ask me."

It had only been less than a month since Oklahoma City, for him.

He then shook Emma's hand firmly. "Peter Bishop. Nice to meet you." And he thoroughly meant that.

"Ninety-five. I was twelve," Emma laughed. "And still stuck in private school hell."

"Don't believe what the movies tell you. All-girls schools are brutal."

"Good to know," Peter said, keeping his hand held out to hopefully be handed the popcorn. "As I don't think I'd ever have the chance to experience that myself. So this place is a big improvement for you?"

She handed over the popcorn willingly. She did want it to be edible, after all. "You could say that," she replied vaguely. "After all, doesn't every high school student dream of co-ed dorms, and being out from under the ever-vigilant eyes of our parents?"

"Ah, but some of us aren't so lucky on that last part," Peter said, taking the popcorn over to the microwave and start the popping process. "But the co-ed dorm thing is definitely nice."

"Don't tell me you're part of the principal's brood?" Emma asked, giving him a wary glance. "Or are you part of the extended Skywalker clan?"

"I don't think this place is crazy enough to put my father in charge of the whole thing," Peter said. "My father is Walter Bishop. I understand he's a new teacher. The timing is... rather unfortunate."

"Ah, the new science teacher," she answered. "I'll get to meet him on Monday, then."

"Although you'd be surprised by the crazy around here...the vice principal is certifiable, and they let him broadcast on radio."

"He must be in charge of hiring," Peter said, thinking that explained how his father was teaching. "But at least I'll see one familiar face tomorrow. I'm Walter's TA."

"Well then, I know who to go to for tutoring if I start having problems with the homework," Emma mused. "Since you're the TA, I'm sure you'll be able to answer any questions I have."

Peter liked the sound of that. Perhaps his father's actions would have some benefits, after all. "I can't make any guarantees," Peter said. "But I can say that I believe it is in the job description for me to help with any and all needs of the other students."
