5th floor common room - noonish

No classes today meant that Jake had been sleeping in (not that this was a new concept). He'd woken up eventually, stomach grumbling and well... he needed food. Honestly, that wasn't a new concept either.

Instead of going to buy something in town however, he'd found some eggs and bacon and was making food. The television in the common room was on and tuned to the Formula 1 practice race because this time of the day, there was little interesting on. For him anyway.

It was the question and Bod should have expected a completely literal answer to a question such as that. Bod smiled at her and finished his eggs before reaching to wash it.

"You chose a refrigerator that's three floors up from your own," he said, glancing back at her. "I don't think it's just because you want to get exercise."

"Oh, it's not just that," Kate mumbled around a spoonful of pudding, because she had awesome manners like that. She did swallow before continuing, though. "This floor also happens to be halfway between mine and the roof."

Totally teasing.

"Ah, a very practical reason," he agreed, glancing back to the dish he was washing. "The fifth floor is a good temporary rest stop. Though, I am biased, of course."

"Exactly," Kate nodded. She ate a few spoonfuls in silence before adding idly, "So, it has nothing at all to do with how much I seem to end up hanging around your room nowadays, and wanting better access to my snacks from there."

"Of course it doesn't," he said lightly, smiling down at his now soap covered plate. "Even if I'd consider that a practical plan as well, not that you're doing that. I'll just assume you've an enjoyment of the fifth floor. That's all."

"Yeah, something like that," she said, nodding once again. "Nothing personal or stuff like that."

And then she stuck the spoon in her mouth so she could have a hand free, so she could reach and poke him in the arm, because...

Well, just because. She wanted to.

Bod hadn't actually expected that and turned his head to fix her with a look, hands still covered in soap suds. Which meant all he could really do was try and retaliate with his foot, reaching out to kick one of her legs gently.

Kate stepped aside, but not enough. Possibly on purpose.

Removing the spoon from her mouth, she said, "Ow." In a way that made it clear that she was only saying it because that was what you were supposed to say when you got kicked.

"I think you should remember that you started it," Bod said, reaching to wash his hands and then turning enough to flick some of that water her way.

Kate made a not entirely serious face at him for that.

"Oh you are so lucky that I don't want to waste any of my pudding."

Not that there was much left in the current cup of hers, anyway.

"Does that mean I can do it again?" Bod asked and didn't wait for an answer before he did, in fact, do it again.

Satisfied with his shenanigans, he turned and reached for a paper towel to finally get his hands dry.

Just for a second or two, Kate considered aiming the pudding cup at his head. But she had another class still left. Probably shouldn't let things escalate.

So, instead, she scraped what little there was on the bottom of the cup with her spoon, and then licked both the spoon and the edges of the cup clean.

Again, Fandom's fondness for her cat form? Not all that unexplainable.

Of course, Bod turned around while she was licking her cup and couldn't help but stare for a few seconds before he hurriedly cleared his throat and looked down at his feet.

Yes, there was a blush crisscrossing his cheeks and neck right now so looking down and pretending that he'd meant to do that and had a reason for doing that was a good plan.

A good plan, but maybe not quite enough to fool a person with a mind geared for the dirty, and a fairly good understanding of how he acted in different situations.

Such as Kate, who was now lowering the cup and giving him a wicked innocent smile.

"What?"

"Nothing," Bod said quickly, shaking his head and keeping his eyes on the floor. "Something caught my eye on the floor so I'm...looking for it."

"Bullshit," she replied cheerfully.

"No, it's true," Bod insisted, wincing when that blush only got worse (mostly because he thought about her licking...things again) and his skin only got hotter. At least his voice was steady. "I like to be thorough in my examinations."

Kate raised her eyebrows. "Okay, then what do you think this mystery eyecatcher might have been?"

So not buying any of this, of course. But there were few things more fun than teasing him.

"Perhaps a bug of some kind," he said, shaking his head in an attempt to get rid of the blush and as a partial answer to her question. "I don't see it there anymore though. Perhaps it's gotten under the counters."

Yes, that's exactly where it was.

Kate bit on her bottom lip, but it didn't tone the smirk down at all.

"See, the thing I don't get about this is," she said innocently, "why would seeing a bug make you blush like that?"

"I'm not...blushing?" Wait, he'd made that a question. "I'm not blushing."

Of course, he was still staring at the ground so he wasn't helping his case.

"Sure you're not." She paused, then added, "In the same way that you're totally able to look at me right now."

Bod...all right, she had him there because he wasn't looking at her. And he knew he was going to just to prove he could. So, fine. He looked up, wincing a bit at the remnants of blushing still on his cheeks and beck.

"I'm looking at you," he said and laughed at himself. "Don't say anything about my face."

"I wasn't going to." Yes she was, but even Kate could show a little mercy sometimes, and just smile at him. "That wasn't so hard, now was it?"

"It's your fault," he said, blaming her because it had been her fault he'd started blushing. "It'll go away in a few moments but no, it wasn't so hard."
