5th floor common room - noonish
No classes today meant that Jake had been sleeping in (not that this was a new concept). He'd woken up eventually, stomach grumbling and well... he needed food. Honestly, that wasn't a new concept either.
Instead of going to buy something in town however, he'd found some eggs and bacon and was making food. The television in the common room was on and tuned to the Formula 1 practice race because this time of the day, there was little interesting on. For him anyway.
[No work is fun.]

At least, Ariel was sort of hoping that was the case, because she had it down pat.

He snorted. "Unintentially then," he said, scratching the back of his neck. "I'm not dorky enough to think of that."
Yeah, he was.

Writing words wasn't very flirtation, so Ariel was making sure to put what she couldn't do in tone through her very expressive eyes.

"They clearly must be jealous," she wrote with a definitive, certain nod.

"I'm hungry, though," she wrote in explanation. "Breakfast time! What do you suggest?"

The sheer amount of exclamation marks easily marked her excitement as she realized that she could contribute something herself. She dropped the notebook and bounced forward quickly to find where the bread had been hidden. Bread, bread, where was the bread?
There it was! She pulled it out and brandished it happily, then opened it up to take out two slices, dropped them into the toaster, and pushed the thing down, just like she'd seen Hayley do. And then turned a beaming grin of accomplishment toward Jacob, to make sure he saw how capable she was.

"Do they have toasters where you're from?" he asked, wondering if that'd explain the energy. "Or did you pick that up real fast?"

Although perhaps she really shouldn't be. If she wasn't, she'd notice that maybe the wait was slightly too long, and there was smoke starting to drift up from the machine behind her.

She didn't know toasters, but she knew that black smoke was probably bad. She flailed, just slightly, before descending upon the appliance and hitting it with her hands, not sure of what else to do. Finally, by sheer dumb luck, she manage to swat the right button, the toast popped up, and Ariel covered her beating heart with her hand, slumping slightly.
While the toast was salvageable, she couldn't be so sure about her pride.

"You okay?" he asked, taking a step closer to inspect the toast. "We can probably scrape that off, or just make a new one." Well, he could. He wasn't sure he wanted to risk another flail like that.

In a desperate attempt to make it look like it hadn't been an utter failure, Ariel snatched up one of the slices of toast, juggled it between her fingers a little because hot, hot, hot! and then took a daring bite.
And a very slow chew.
See? Yummy...
She smiled hopefully, but her eyes betrayed her.
Mmm. Char.

"It's okay. You just got here Saturday," he pointed out and taking a wilde guess, he opened the fridge to grab a carton of orange juice. "There's glasses in the cupboard right to your left."
