Tim decided to put Claire's lesson to use and make himself some dinner. He found the pot she'd been using, boiled water and added the pasta. And then added some more because he was pretty hungry and it didn't look like it would be a lot of food. And a little more, in case someone else wanted some.

Did Dinah know about the cockrings? Not that Roy knew about them, but. Crazytown.

"Good," Roy said cautiously, remembering this girl's frighteningly accurate diagnosis the day they'd met. "You?"

"I was kind of bummed around graduation," Karla said, glancing back to him again. "But I'm doing better. Vicariously living through Dinah's exploits on the trip. Not that Tony and Priestly would let her inner tube down some giant dam they visited, which I think is unfair."

The cockrings didn't make her from Crazytown. The desire to fling herself off the side of the Hoover Dam did.

"How go classes?"

"Yeah, Dinah doesn't really have a sense of self-preservation that I can find," Roy said. Inner tubing down Hoover Dam was crazy even by his standards. "They're going. I'm in Phys Ed with a crazy man and Self-Defense with a--" really extremely hot "woman. I think they're both new teachers. You?"

"Rookiehood 101 with Reno--new teacher, but he's an alumnus, so not really; Magic of Baking, Romance 101, and Anatomy of a Trial," Karla replied, counting them off on her fingers. After a week, it was still hard to remember which ones she'd signed up for. "All of them experienced teachers, except for Reno."

"Cool," Roy said. "Romance, huh?"

He couldn't help it.

"I don't have a lot of experience with it," Karla admitted without apparent chagrin. "And Professor Demon's awesome. He didn't mind a bit when I yelled at the books in our lit class--Hell's fire, he usually agreed."

Two things were breaking Roy's brain. First, "You yell at the books? Isn't that kind of...futile? I mean, they can't yell back." And second, "Professor Demon? Like, that's his actual last name?"

"What, you don't yell at the teevee when the game is on or someone's about to do something stupid?" Karla scoffed. "You just...sit there?"
