Main Campfire | Afternoon | Sunday | May 23

The cabins were a bit of a change. Bod wouldn't necessarily call them a bad change but they were going to take some getting used to. He still had his own space and his privacy but it was lessened now and he'd have to remember that. After doing some unpacking, he'd wandered out to main campfire and taken a seat, taking advantage of the overcast day. He really didn't need to end up sunburned on the first day even if he knew about Karla's sunburn salves now.

So, he was out there now, a book resting on one bent knee and back against one of the logs. He knew it wasn't much of a change from what he tended to do on quiet days but Bod saw no reason that a change in setting would mean a change in routine.

[Oooh, a campfire post! Open, of course!]

"So your mom was a calculator, huh?" Denise asked. Snarkily. "Or an encyclopedia? I'm not assuming anything, deer boy."

"Your face is a lack of actual knowledge," Denise said, sounding fairly sedate for all that she was using a very simple comeback.

"No, I didn't stop to consider there might be other reasons you might be confused," she said, mimicking his tone. "I don't care and I think you have a deer face. It's not my problem you can't keep up."

There was a beat of silence.

Then: "Oh, cool," Denise said, flatly, "Now we get to watch the hypocrisy train pull into the station."

"No, do go on," Denise said, grinning at him in a big way that somehow failed to reach her eyes. "Lecture me on how many assumptions I'm making and how through the course of one two-minute conversation you've unearthed all the moral flaws of my character." She squealed. Fakely. "You're so charming, deer face."

"No, see, I don't care about your character."

The totally fake smile dimmed a little.

"What I was judging was your face."

"I really don't care what you think about my face," Denise said, shrugging her shoulder. "But I can beat you up," she added, idly, "So, y'know, it's your gamble."

"No, because I can. What are you, some kind of wannabe-psych major?"

"Too bad," Denise shot in his general direction, "Nobody asked you. I think violence works pretty well for me."

"I would tell you that beating the shit out of something every week might get rid of whatever stick you've got up your ass," she said, thoughtfully, "But that would imply I cared."

"No, because. I. Can," she said, "Read my lips here, deer-eyes."

"No, I'm making fun of you because you're so defensive," Denise replied, rolling her eyes. "If I was insulting you, I'd try harder. It's hilarious watching you spaz."
