fandomhighdorms | Military Reserves Meeting, Tuesday After Classes

Today's meeting of the reserves was not being held in its usual place, no. People had been ~~handwavily~~ notified that the meeting was going to be held in the Danger Shop, and to meet there once the classes for the day were over so that they wouldn't be getting in anyone's way. It was kind of amazing how much stuff could be crammed into one room, wasn't it?

"Heya, guys!" Zack grinned and nodded to people as they filed in. "Today, we're going to be starting on practical runs of stuff that we've been talking about, all along. Unfamiliar and rough terrain, weapons that might be equally unfamiliar, stamina, agility, and that sort of thing."

"Which means," Kennedy contributed, no small amount of cheerful and eager herself, "welcome to the Fandom Gladiators triathlon, you guys. Not everybody's going to be awesome at every single stage of this thing, but that's kinda the point: figuring out what you need to work on, or what you want to get better at. So keep an eye out for that while you're on the course, and we'll be keeping an eye on it too."

"And try not to get killed." Look, Jak... tended to like it better when Torn handled the debriefing. "We've got guns. If you shoot yourselves in the foot, it's not our problem." Well... it technically was, but whatever. "We start training next week. And, uh..." Pause. "Good luck."

Yay, cookies! Ben reached out to snag a few as he glanced over at the obstacle course. It reminded him of something his father would design.

Without really knowing why she was doing this, Tahiri waved a hand to snag the cookies away from Ben.

"Uh uh," she said, grinning mischievously. "No cookies for you."

"Hey!" Ben protested, flailing after the treat. "That was mine!"

"Nope," Tahiri informed him sweetly, and Force-tugged a little harder on the cookies. "Not any more, it isn't."

He hadn't gotten stuck in his room. It was only fair.

"That's not fair!" he ~~whined~~ whined.

"Sure it is," Tahiri insisted. Not that she had any idea why. "I bet you had plenty of chances to get cookies while I couldn't go anywhere."

"It doesn't mean I took advantage of that option!" Ben protested.

"Okay, maybe not." Tahiri hadn't relinquished the cookies yet, though. "Not necessarily. Did you, though? I mean, you are a teenage boy."

Totally.

"Maybe," he admitted.

Tahiri's eyebrows crept up, and she put her hands on her hips and looked at him expectantly.

"Ben Skywalker . . ."

Ben blushed. "Okay, yeah, I had cookies," he mumbled.

"That's what I thought," Tahiri said, relenting . . . and taking a bite of cookie herself. "So it's only fair for me to have your share today."

He could have done something much worse. Just saying.

"I'm not sure it works like that," Ben said with a little grin.

"If we compare the total number of cookies you've had recently to my total, I think you'll find it severely imbalanced," Tahiri said solemnly. "How am I supposed to catch up if you keep adding onto yours?"

It was logical. Sort of.

"I'm bigger than you are," Ben said. "Logically, I should get a greater proportion of cookies."

"I also grew another centimeter in the past month," Tahiri argued. "I think that changes the proportions some, don't you?"

"Maybe by a cookie a month," Ben declared magnanimously.

"Boy, you're generous." Tahiri aimed a playful shove at his arm. "Now I know who to count on if I ever get the urge to have an extravagant dinner."

Ben stumbled dramatically. "As long as I get 70 percent of what's on the table, I think it's a fair deal," he said.

"Seventy percent? Seventy percent?" Tahiri burst out laughing. "Who taught you the definition of fair?"

"You're really short," Ben pointed out unnecessarily.

"You're incredibly observant," Tahiri retorted, her cheeks flushing just a bit. "Maybe I'm getting a late jump on growth and I'll end up taller than you ~~according to Allston~~."

Yeah, that was ever going to happen.

"Maybe you can settle for being taller than Jag," Ben teased.

"That sounds like a reasonable compromise," Tahiri agreed, and took another bite out of the cookie. Nyeah.

"I swear he's shorter every time I see him," Ben said.

Growth spurts will occur to him. Eventually.
