Military Reserves Meeting, Tuesday After Classes

Today's meeting of the reserves was not being held in its usual place, no. People had been handwavily notified that the meeting was going to be held in the Danger Shop, and to meet there once the classes for the day were over so that they wouldn't be getting in anyone's way. It was kind of amazing how much stuff could be crammed into one room, wasn't it?

"Heya, guys!" Zack grinned and nodded to people as they filed in. "Today, we're going to be starting on practical runs of stuff that we've been talking about, all along. Unfamiliar and rough terrain, weapons that might be equally unfamiliar, stamina, agility, and that sort of thing."

"Which means," Kennedy contributed, no small amount of cheerful and eager herself, "welcome to the Fandom Gladiators triathlon, you guys. Not everybody's going to be awesome at every single stage of this thing, but that's kinda the point: figuring out what you need to work on, or what you want to get better at. So keep an eye out for that while you're on the course, and we'll be keeping an eye on it too."

"And try not to get killed." Look, Jak... tended to like it better when Torn handled the debriefing. "We've got guns. If you shoot yourselves in the foot, it's not our problem." Well... it technically was, but whatever. "We start training next week. And, uh..." Pause. "Good luck."

Tara had kind of promised Jak she'd show up at a meeting at some point, and this was some point. She stayed at the edges of the meeting, warily eying the obstacle course. No one was going to make a guest run it, right?

It was kind of nice to be able to count on cookies all the time now, sans disapproving looks; Tahiri helped herself to a few and checked out the course with a casual eye.

. . . still resisting the urge to smack Kennedy. Just on general principle or something. Hush.

Yay, cookies! Ben reached out to snag a few as he glanced over at the obstacle course. It reminded him of something his father would design.

Without really knowing why she was doing this, Tahiri waved a hand to snag the cookies away from Ben.

"Uh uh," she said, grinning mischievously. "No cookies for you."

The Course!

Step right up and try your hand at the Fandom Gladiators Triathlon! If you don't do so hot in one part of the course, don't sweat it! Just keep in mind where you need to improve, and move along to something else. Who knows? You might be better than anyone else at it!

Target Practise!

Arranged in front of you are a selection of projectile weapons. A gun, a crossbow, a bow and arrows, throwing knives, spears, and the like. Choose any two and use them to hit the targets that are set up in front of you. If you're comfortable with the range that the targets are sitting at, try moving backward a few solid paces, to give yourself a challenge! You can move on to the next part of the course once you've hit each target at least once with your two weapons of choice.

Leda chose the gun, and the throwing knives. She did all right with the gun, but she was dead on every time with the knives.

Goose opted to try with the gun and the throwing knives. He had no problem with the gun and even though it wasn't absolutely perfect, he was able to aim the knives at the target each time.

Obstacle Running!

Which is our kind way of saying, "A balance beam that you have to run across while the Danger Shop swings giant padded mallets at you."

Retreat Under Fire!

Partner up with someone. One of you will play wounded, and the other has to get them to safety. While the Danger Shop pelts you both with water balloons.

Yes, retreat. Sometimes you have to.

Zack found himself kind of lurking in the doorway, smiling at the whole scenario.

Oh, he was so planning on taking part in this whole thing when the rest of the group filed out again.

Kennedy was definitely taking a run through the setup herself after everyone was done, though for the duration of the meeting she'd be doing her usual thing of pacing along the edge of the group to check out how everyone was getting on.

Tara looked almost proud of herself as she wandered over to Kennedy. "Look, I finally came to a meeting. Kind of like am ambassador."

Jak wasn't lurking. Or eying the set-up much. Mostly. It wasn't that it was a challenge; it was that he'd been without a mission for weeks now, and he was... feeling a little itchy.
