Main Campfire | Wednesday Night | 6.2.2010

Peter was technically tempting fate, lying down near the campfire. He made sure his feet were far enough from the fire that he wasn't in danger of accidentally setting himself on fire.

He was humming 'Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds' to himself, looking up at the stars. This totally beat random TV in a common room.

"I figured something low key tonight," Peter remarked. "So best to enjoy something that won't cause people to make thinly veiled threats at me."

"Do people often make thinly veiled threats at you?" Ellie asked, amused.

"Only when I set off fireworks, apparently," Peter said. "Some kids are just from the extra-jumpy universes."

He sat up, and gave Ellie a little wave. "Peter Bishop. Nice to meet you."

"Oh yeah. That happens around here," Ellie grinned. "Ellie Bartowski. Nice to meet you, too. You're from an earth universe of some kind I'm guessing?"

"You know, I never thought I'd meet girls who have to use the phrase 'earth universe' in a context that isn't a Galactic Battles convention," Peter said. "But you're right. 1996 plain old Earth for me."

"Well, I grew up with a brother who's into sci-fi. Plus, I've been here a year and got used to the whole different universes thing," Ellie explained. "We're from the same era. It's 1997 where I'm from."

"Hey, practically the same year," Peter said. "It's almost terrifying that this is something to potentially bond over."

Ellie nodded, laughing slightly. "At least some of the tv shows from this time are good, but the music is better in the 90s."

"I think it's my new goal in life that when I get back to my own time, I have to make sure that T-Pain never has a recording career," Peter said.

"I think a lot of people would thank you for that," Ellie told him.

"Ah, but they'll never know what I saved them from," Peter said. "I'll just have to live in my own happy satisfaction."

Which was what he did normally, really.

"So, what brought you to this fine new branch of higher education?"

"Just to see if I could be on my own for a little while." It had been good preparation. "Then I decided I liked it here and decided to stay. How about you?"

"My mother thought it might actually entice me to finish high school," Peter said. "That, or she had a dastardly plan to throw me at a school where my father was teaching."

Ellie raised an eyebrow. "You're dad teaches here?"

"Walter Bishop," Peter said. "I think you should be glad you've not encountered him yet."

"I'd be saying the same thing to you if my dad was a teacher here," Ellie said, shaking her head slightly.

"Walter even has me as his TA. Didn't really give me much of a choice. But it could be worse, I suppose," Peter said. "So, what do you do for fun around here?"

He settled down on the ground again.

"There's hanging out at campfires," Ellie smirked. "There's watching television shows that don't exist yet in my time, and sometimes just dealing with the weirdness can be fun. It's never boring. Oh, and Caritas. It's a bar that doesn't card."

"On an island this small?" Peter said. "Wow, the local police must really not care about their jobs."
