One month to the day, even though he hadn't planned it, Peter was back in the rec room playing on the piano. He was awaiting the arrival of his date prearranged meeting person, but while he waited he was playing a bit of Bach, just hoping that maybe the classical music might keep others away. Maybe.

Claudia had never actually been to the first floor rec room before, but it wasn't exactly difficult to find, especially when she could just follow the music.

"Well," she said, pausing in the doorway to lean against the jam. "That's kind of melodramatic."

"At least it wasn't Orff?" Peter joked, stopping his playing. He gave Claudia a little lopsided smile. "Nice to see you."

Claudia decided she'd have to look up what "Orff" was. She pushed away from the door, moving into the room proper. "You, too. How's your week going?"

"Well, other than my dirty socks attempting to blindside me while I boggled at seeing a dragon's head in my cabin, it's been a pretty good week," Peter said.

Claudia blinked. "You know, anywhere else? I'd ask what you'd been smoking."

"Anywhere else, I'd be committing myself after a sentence like that," Peter said. "I'm currently in awe that I said it with a straight face."

"Any idea why your socks decided to attack you?"

"I wasn't the only one," Peter said. "Hiccup was having the same problem."

"Huh." Claudia's laundry hadn't attacked her. She was remarkably clean, for a teenager. "Did you and Hiccup do something to offend your socks?"

"There was sadly a direct correlation between their fighting spirit and how long it had been since they'd been washed," Peter said. "Apparently a couple socks had fallen under my bed and been neglected."

"I'm torn between saying 'ew' and trying to figure out how to make self-washing socks."

"That would probably be a big help," Peter admitted. "At least in this case."

He paused. "So, on to less disgusting matters, what do you want me to play?"

"Hey, like I told you, player's choice." Plus, she didn't know that much about piano music.

Peter had totally cheated. He'd come prepared and started playing The Cure (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-xRFX-3aqtI).

Watch his smug smile as he played.

It took Claudia a few notes before she realized what he was playing, then broke in a huge grin. "Now you're talkin'. See? That one's not depressing."

Peter softened his playing just a bit, to tone down on the volume.

"Hey, that last thing I wanted to do was depress you tonight," he said.

"It would put a small damper on the evening if you were." Claudia leaned against the piano. "Did you learn that one just this week, or were you holding out on me when we talked about it?"

"I put it together this week," Peter admitted. His playing wasn't perfect, admittedly, but he was getting it done. "I won't take credit for being that clever."

"And here I thought you just had an impressive amount of foresight. How long have you played?"

"Too long," Peter joked. "It's one of those things I didn't exactly learn out of my own free will. But it comes in handy from time to time."

Mostly with impressing girls.

"You talk like they tied you to the piano bench. You play far too well not to enjoy it at least a little."

Peter looked over at Claudia, a rueful smile on his face. "You're far too clever," he said, as the song finished.

"I get that a lot. What's your favorite thing to play?"

Peter started playing 'Someone to Watch Over Me', since she'd asked. "Don't worry, I'm not going to sing," he said. He really wasn't a singer. "But a little Gershwin always does a body good."

"Now Gershwin I recognize." Barely, admittedly. "I'm working on the musical in town, so I did a little bit of research."

Not that West Side Story really had anything to do with Gershwin. But she'd come across the name, and was adept at getting sidetracked into interesting online articles.
