notmyownage: (*is lazy*)

Third floor common room, Tuesday afternoon

No classes or work -- and not quite having the energy to go out and attempt to rebuild the trebuchet -- made for a nice lazy afternoon. Claudia was curled up on one side of the common room couch for a little light reading.

Look, when you spent more than half your time studying theoretical physics, Gravity's Rainbow WAS light reading. Maybe not as light as, say, Vonnegut, maybe. And, okay, she'd only made it 20 pages in, so far. She kept getting distracted by the whole thing with the giant blobby slime monster eating London.

Literature was totally screwed up, yo. English teachers never told you that.

[ooc: Do I have to meta Pynchon? Open!]

Hannibal wandered one floor down and finally found someone who wasn't in class. Not having anything to do most days sometimes made him bored.

"You should save the reading for class," said the slacker as he wandered into the common room.

"So, you're reading for fun?" Hannibal asked, making a face. "Sounds a little geeky."

"That what you're aiming for?" he guessed.

"Loud and proud," he said, flopping down. "Works for me. Reading anything good, Geek Chic?"

Peter cast a glance at Claudia's reading before he went for the remote.

"Am I going to be interrupting if I turn something on?"

"Not a fan of the destruction of London?" Hannibal asked from where he'd taken a seat.

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 09:59 pm (UTC)(link)
"Typically I'm not a fan of the destruction of any city," Peter said, a little confused. He didn't actually know the plot of Claudia's book.

"Not even in movies?" Hannibal asked, raising an eyebrow.

[...let's just pretend I didn't read the post wrong there and think narrative was spoken. Wtf me wtf wtf.]

"Well, there's something to be said for the ridiculous," Peter said. "Those big rubber monster movies can be amusing enough, if you're watching with the right crowd. "

[identity profile] decoder-rings.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:08 pm (UTC)(link)
"What's the right crowd?" Hannibal wondered. "Drunkards?"

[identity profile] theotherpeter.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
"Or people who can crack good jokes," Peter said. "Drunkards might work, though. I've not exactly had the chance to experience that, myself."

He was only 17. He could probably easily get a fake ID, but it didn't appeal to him that much.

"Weird, entertaining, and boring," Peter said. "You sure know how to pick your books."

He clicked on the TV and found a re-run of The Alan Brady Show. He thought for a moment, then left it on, since he wasn't really looking to watch anything, really. "So, you normally come to the public room to try and read?"

"Hey, it beats that show about scary people from New Jersey," Peter said, half-heartedly. "If you want to channel surf, be my guest. I actually wasn't planning on paying too much attention to the TV."

James was wandering around the dorm, relieved to have a modicum of privacy, despite his roommate.

"I believe something terrible has happened to your project," he said, spying his engineer friend.

"So I heard," he said.

Not admitting anything.

[identity profile] squire-hand.livejournal.com 2010-06-22 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
He nodded. "It's rather hard to fling anything when it is all but pieces."

He plopped into a nearby chair. "I trust your weekend got better after...that day."
