The Roof, Monday Afternoon
Sunglasses?
Check.
Sunscreen?
Check.
Blanket to lounge on? Trashy novels to read? An assortment of beverages?
Check, check, and double-check.
Karla was having a lazy day. The roof provided an excellent combination of sun, garden, and an excellent view of the dorms, all without the bother of having to trek very far to get there. What better way to start her vacation week?

For her part, Karla was wearing a bikini and a sarong. A full year here hadn't inured her to the discomfort of showing off that much leg. "No sun hat?" she asked with a wink. "Irulan will be so disappointed."
no subject
"Irulan isn't trying to get most of her skin tone to match," she said with a smile. She laid down on her blanket and closed her eyes. "How are things with you?"

She propped herself up to reach for drink. "How about you?" she asked. "Won't be a newbie anymore next weekend. Oh! There's water and juice here if you get thirsty. Help yourself."
no subject
"Okay, overall. Still getting used to things. And people. I'm glad it's vacation, too. No homework!"

"Uhm, not really. Not in the right place at the right time?"

"You're really getting native now."

She sat up and gave Ender a bright smile, very pleased to see him. "Kiss kiss. You know, I don't think I saw you at all in the cabins. Did you just move out to the beach in the shuffle?"

Instead, he walked further onto the roof, picking a spot a foot or so away from her to sit down on. "Or you could ask Ben and get all the conspiracy theories out," he said, with a gentle blend of amusement and exasperation. "Either way-- how have you been?"
no subject
Liiiiiiiiies.
"In all seriousness, though, I have missed you. Perhaps I'll stop by the shop next week for a visit--assuming I won't interfere?" Karla knew Ben stopped by on Mondays as well, and wasn't sure how much time Ender was willing to lose from a day, dancing attendance on his friends. "As for me, things have been...eventful. Ben's had to fuss at me several times already this past week."
no subject
He leaned backwards on his hands, and shot her a glance. "Go ahead and tell me. You know fussing isn't my strong suit."
no subject
"So I have decided that this week is for relaxing. I'm going to be social and silly and avoid anything with even a vague hint of heroics involved."
Because that would last, sure.

No, Karla stood on the sidelines, fling Craft at said danger for a minute or two before tossing herself into the ring. Very different.

"As for the last few weeks?" She wrinkled her nose. "I've gone up against a serial killer, a mob of beggars, an evil witch, and an angry goddess. A lot for just a few day's time, honestly. So, I'm treating myself to a lazy day."

She took a sip. "How about you? What have you been up to?"
