4th Floor Common Room - Monday Afternoon

For once Rose didn't feel like being outside - something about the humidity or the thunderstorms or whatever. She didn't feel like being in her room which still felt too empty without Morgana there either so she found herself down in the common room with the music turned up loudly.

Even better, in the refrigerator, there was a tube of chocolate chip dough. Rose eyed it warily. Should it be eaten with a spoon or should she try to make cookies? The oven was on and a cookie sheet was out, but the possibility of ruined cookies was high once they actually went in the oven. Difficult choices for a Monday afternoon.

"Nah, any destruction of the dorms will be totally accidental," she promised. "Which is why we're not actually baking the cookies today."

"Ah, I see. Well I thank you for keeping us safe," he said with a smirk. "I'm Luke, by the way. Pretty sure I haven't met you yet."

"It's my job," Rose joked. "And I'm Rose. You're one of the new kids, right? Might've seen you at that picnic."

"Yep, I'm as new as they come," he said with a nod. "I was too busy trying to do the shirtless tradition proud to really notice too many people at the picnic. You know, flexing, making sure the sunlight hits my abs at the right angle. That sort of thing."

"You know, if you have to work that hard, it's probably not worth taking your shirt off," she teased.

"Hey, I am just dedicated to my new school," Luke said. And years of sword fighting had guaranteed him a rocking body, thank you. "I do school spirit right."

"If you really did it right, you wouldn't wear a shirt anytime," Rose pointed out. "Shirtless spirit isn't just for the picnic."

"Now, see, I was told it was just a picnic thing," Luke said. "I figured me walking around shirtless on any old day might be perceived as me showing off."

"School spirit, showing off, is there really a big difference?" Rose pointed out.

"I suppose there isn't," Luke allowed. "School spirit is essentially showing off how awesome the student body is. Literally, in this case."

"There's all this big talk about the awesome, but I haven't seen any proof of it yet," Rose pointed out.

"All right, all right. Put up or shut up, I get it," Luke said. He didn't have a sense of shame when it came to his own body (he even felt that scar on his face was kind of cool), so he had no issue with pulling off his t-shirt for the sake of proving a point. It definitely helped that he looked like a person who worked out often.

"Huh. Didn't notice how high they had the A/C up in here until this exact moment."

"Niiice," Rose admitted, smirking a little as he actually took the shirt off. "You a fighter?"

Luke nodded, tossing his t-shirt over a shoulder so he wouldn't have to hold it. "Work with swords, mostly."

"Yeah?" she looked interested. "Why swords? Personal preference or you a knight or something?"

"Monsters where I'm from can only be defeated with celestial bronze, and the only weapons made with that are swords and knives," Luke said. "I wouldn't necessarily say no to bullets made of the stuff, but my family is very traditional."

Rose nodded, understanding. "For me, it's silver stakes. No one will tell me why they just can't charm some silver bullets but I'd be up to blaming being stuck ass traditional."

"Stakes?" he asked. "What, you fight vampires or something?"

He met a witch yesterday, no reason for vampires to not exist as well.

"Yep, one kind of 'em," she said, totally blase. "What about you? What are just 'monsters'?"

"You know anything about Greek mythology? Because I fight pretty much everything in there." Luke tilted his head to the side to show the scar running down his face. "For example: Dragon."

Rose took a look at that scar, her eyebrows raising. "Dragon," she repeated. "Really. Like that one that little one-legged kid has?"

Luke could only assume that she was talking about the dragon he saw during the picnic. "Sort of like that, yeah. Only this one is less people-friendly. Guards a bunch of golden apples. Doesn't take kindly to you trying to steal them."

"Did you get one of the golden apples?" she asked.

"I didn't," Luke said, feeling a little anger flare up at that. He didn't blame himself for that, of course. He blamed his father. "You kill many vampires?"

Rose reached up to rub the back of her neck where her tattoos were thoughtfully as she watched him, wondering what the situation there was. "Not as many as I'm going to when I get out of here."
