Magic/Support Reserves: the Preserve, Wednesday After Classes

When the magic and support reservists showed up to the preserve this afternoon, instead of four girls standing around in front of a table full of food, they'd find four girls on a white sheet spread out on the grass, in a large, twisted pile of arms and legs and assorted other parts.

One of those parts was Francine's face, which was, thankfully, free enough of the human spaghetti-monster that she could say: "Hi, guys! Don't worry, we're fine!"

She'd say and not doing anything dirty but she was Francine and the concept of whose elbow is that and what is it doing there had only just occurred to her. With an eep. That she was trying hard to suppress, not joke about. "We're just demonstrating a teambuilding exercise!"

Yes. That was what the kids were calling it these days.

"It's a game called Twister, for those of you who don't know it, but the object here isn't to be the last person upright when everybody else falls: it's to support your teammates so everybody can keep going for as long as possible, whether that's with magic or just a nice strong shoulder to lean on."

Tara was flushed as she pried herself loose enough to talk. The position she'd been wedged into had given her a good chance at guessing not just the other girls' bra sizes, but also whether they favored underwires or padding. "If you haven't played before," she observed, "it really helps to be flexible and, uh, not too shy about contact."

She was working on that part. Really.

Raven was utterly convinced now that Earth games were created by the insane. That was the only possible explanation for this "Twister." Either that or it had to belong in 'Dite's shop. "It might also be considered good practice on control for those of you whose powers are based on or intensified by touch," she added.

She was really hoping that no one in the pile started to daydream about, say, Kennedy or Katchoo, or she was going to get a mindful of it.

If Karla was unusually silent, it might have had something to do with her Craft being the major factor in the pile of girls not being a collapsed pile of girls. Or maybe the fact that the answer to Tara's guessing game for most of them was 'Padding? Ahahaahahahaha.'

Raven was there and detangled. And trying to act casual.

"Hi, Raven." Scully was still looking doubtful and also kind of bzuh? about this. Because she hated team-building exercises, partly. "I thought I'd stop by. See what you guys did to get ready for invasions around here."

... played Twister. Apparently.

"Welcome, Dana," Raven said, smiling. "As you can see, oftentimes we play games to simulate the use of our gifts or build confidence. This time it was more to help us work as a team." Though despite Francine's explanation, she was still having a difficult time understanding just how being all tangled up with one's friends was suppose to do just that.

Scully nodded slowly in a way that might have implied, Well Okay Then. Say No More. "I see. The goal being to... get out without injury?"

"It is to hold each other up, rather than to win by the true rules of the game," Raven said. "That is how Francine explained it. At least it is a game I can participate in this time. Usually they simulate violence so I cannot."

"Right." Scully frowned, then, and said, "You can't play games that have violence, or you don't want to?" A fine distinction here.

"I am a pacifist," Raven explained. "I have come to accept that violence is sometimes necessary since coming here, but I am still loathe to participate in it myself, even if it is fake." Though the events of last week had sorely tested that belief, especially when she'd seen how willing the people of Azarath were willing to die.

"I know that with your gifts, it might not often be an issue," Scully said. She turned her head to study the Twister pile. "But I hope you can escape trouble easier than that game."

"My ability to move through dimensions is helpful for escaping trouble," Raven said. She frowned a little. "But trouble sometimes comes for me. And I am just as loathe to leave my friends if they are in danger or will have need of my gifts of healing."

Scully nodded. "So fighting back is going to be an issue, sometimes."

"I was raised to shun fighting," Raven said quietly. "I sometimes question it, however. I do not want to allow someone to hurt me if I cannot escape."

Scully's emotions took a turn for the personal then, as much as she didn't want them to. Memories of far too many encounters where she had to fight tooth and nail to get free rose up, and she clenched her hands. Her face remained mostly impassive, though her eyes were sad. "You really don't." She cleared her throat. "But you don't have to. There's nothing intrinsically wrong with fighting to get free, or defend yourself from harm. It may upset you, but so would being hurt."

"Those of Azarath would not even fight to survive," Raven said, remembering how she'd seen people fall to the demons that her father had sent. "Death is preferable to breaking their vows of non-violence. I would prefer not to bring pain to another, even if they were attempting to do the same to me" -- unless she were all demoned out, of course -- "but I do not think I could just allow myself to die as they did."

"Which is why we keep playing," Karla said firmly. "You don't just give up on something because you're not good at it the first time. Besides, you're very flexible. That's important!"
trigons_child: (Worried)

And not wondering what it would be like to play just with Karla, no, not at all.

"What's wrong with males?" Karla asked. "We're in public, we have our clothes on, and it's Warren and Tim. They're trustworthy males."

Karla would never suggest such a thing if Chuck were playing or Dean, but Warren and Tim wouldn't be thinking dirty thoughts, right?

Karla shrugged. "I'm willing to bet they do," she said wryly. "If there's one thing I've learned about Fandom, it's that people get really creative about sex."

Two words, Raven: Chuck Bass.
trigons_child: (Fierce!)

Re: Talk to the Leaders [7/14]

[personal profile] trigons_child 2010-07-15 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Raven preferred not to think of "sex" and "Chuck Bass" in the same sentence, kthnx.

That might've been a good segue to ask Karla about 'Dite. Or maybe even bringing up the kiss. But instead, she merely nodded. "Very well," she said, "I will play with you if you wish."

NOT DIRTY.

Maybe.
