Sixth Floor Common Room, Friday Night
By mutual agreement, Karla and her parents decided not to talk about about what was going on in Glacia and why she was here at Fandom. They still wished to know and were biding their time; Karla had pretty much decided that telling them would be a waste of time. All they could do was feel bad about it.
Instead, they had spent the afternoonhandwavily wandering around the island, with Karla pointing out fun places to hang out and explore. Her father was intrigued by all the modern technology and would have been happy to spend several hours in Karla's dorm, fiddling with the lightswitch, her ipod, and her laptop. Karla's mother, however, wanted to meet more of Karla's friends. Having been on the island for over a year now, Karla knew the best way to lure people into one place.
Several orders of takeout later, the sixth floor common room was filled with dishes from Il Pollo, the Lobster Hut, Ching Tai, and, of course, Pizza Planet. She couldn't let her parents come to Fandom and not try pizza!

She struggled to think of a Fandom adventure she could relate in front of her parents. The invasions were all right out, as were the the days when males turned into females and vice versa--not that Karla was keen to talk about those days anyway. Sex pollen? HA! Not likely. And the only event she was less likely to talk about than sex pollen was the other-Fandom.
"Like the day when everyone went around singing!" Karla said brightly, finally landing on one day she could speak of in peace. "It's kind of embarrassing. You have no control over what you're singing or even why. You might just be talking to someone and then--bam! Suddenly your singing on the top of your lungs about something. Sometimes completely with choreography."

"Did you sing and dance much that day, then?" Cloud would have to wonder just what could he had sang; it most likely mattered little to the island if he knew something or anything about music. Still, if everyone was doing it, it might not have been terribly awful. Or terribly awful, but at least not exclusive to him; he could live with that, perhaps.

Karla kind of failed at being reassuring, it was true.

That was Karla's way of saying, 'yes.'
"But you can avoid them if you're careful and you're clever."

Giving a small smile to Karla, Cloud sighed; maybe he was intruding now? The girl deserved all the time she could have with her parents after all, even if he understood well the need to keep the smothering away. And yet, she would miss that too later. Only then he realized that getting out of the conversation would be as difficult as keeping it up. Stupid social skills.
"If there is anything else...I suppose you might want to spend time by yourselves?"
