Main Campfire - Morning before classes
Weather still too hot. Check. Cabin stinking of leeches. Check. Half naked boy. Check. Half naked boy eating. Check.
Hopefully those thunderstorms wouldn't take much longer to reach the island, but for now it was dry and Jake had taken up position at the main campfire. There was a bag from J,GOB resting on the ground between his feet. He was planning on just eating it all by himself, but if you'd ask nicely enough he might be willing to share.
Might.

And here was where Warren's awe for anyone who could hold their own in a fight came into play, yes. He was very, very good at running away, himself.

Better to fight crime shirtless and in jeans. Seriously.
"So..." He hesitated for a moment, not certain if he was pushing at corners he wasn't supposed to. But, well, this guy had said it himself, so... "Born into you?"

He nodded slowly at the question. He was a bit more open lately, but it was a vague sort of open and a whole truth was still miles away. "It's in my genes. My grandfather was a fighter, so I'm too."

"More like inheriting the family trade, then," he mused, absently. "My father wants me to take over his business someday, but that has nothing to do with what's in my genes."
And everything, all the same. Life was a complicated creature. Warren didn't necessarily approve so much of that fact.

"And you're not interested?" Jake guessed, judging from the tone of the remark.
no subject
"It isn't that I'm not interested. Not really. Heck, I wouldn't mind owning a business that's as successful as my father's has been. But in my case, genes are sort of... getting in the way."
Warren shrugged. "I think I'm more willing to take what I was born to be than I am to take what I was raised to be, though."
no subject
"What? You're not good enough to follow the family business?" he asked. "Or is it more of meant to do something else thing?"
no subject
"A little of both, I guess," he sighed. "I can't follow in my father's footsteps unless I change what I am, and pretty severely, at that. I even used to think it was worth it."
no subject
"You don't think so anymore?"

He was thoughtful like that!

Warren, stop thinking about buying a stranger a garage in Northern Canada.

Warren, don't start planning this guy's post-secondary career, too.

"Maybe? I dunno, was thinking of going in that direction anyway, but you know... genes getting in the way and all that," he shrugged. "It's kind of vague where I'm heading to next."
